Can someone help with Governor Davis's achievements while in office
I have to individuals who say that they don't like Governor Davis and that he hasnt been a good leader, and yet virtually everyone I have asked to state specific reasons, they can't think of anything, except the fact that they dont like his hair, and/or want to blame him for the Energy debacle, which facts seem to show that was a Government and Energy company sham and shakedown in the worst way!

I know that he has accomplished some positive things during his office, but being pretty new to LA, I dont know very much about his record. Can someone provide information on what he has done to help Californians?

I do know this. Californians say the pollution is WAY down under his leadership. And that in and of itself is a biggie, considering how bad the smog used to be here in LA.

Wouldnt it be great if we as Dems actually STOOD BY our leaders and stopped leaving them high and dry when the going gets tough.

We may not love Gray Davis, but so far I think hes been a pretty good governor, from what I hear a HELL of alot better than Wilson. And, when Dems go after our own, we potentially scare off other good quality candidates who might run because they won't feel fully supporting with such a fickle, unpredictible party.

1. he has helped State workers
I am a retired State employee. Last year the insurance cost was so high I had to forfeit my entire pension and pay the State approx. $2000.00!

I bitterly complained about this to CalPERS and as many elected officials I could find, including Gray Davis.

This year, CalPERS had to up their contribution rate for the medical insurance. There are only two plans available where I live being all of the HMOs left rural areas.

Thanks to Gray Davis, my costs are now reduced by about $1500.00 a year as the AFSCME union pushed the issue heavily and I had to pay about $500.00 this year instead of $2,000.00.

In addition to this personal issue, I also noted that he spent money fixing up many of the roads up north where I live. They were trashed so bad it was not funny.

Furthermore, it was Gray Davis that implemented the reduction in Vehicle License Fees. This saved me a few hundred a year in renewals. He is against abolishing it but the GOP is forcing it as an issue. He is doing the best he can given the grim state of being in California now.

He did the best he could with that energy fiasco. Who could have handled it any better and how is what I'd like to know.

He is NOT a crook. I truly believe this.

I hope this helps. If I think of more later, I will add to it.

twilight :)
