Please help: Why can't they show the face of the American hostage??
It seems weird...
They've always showed American hostage faces in the past, they have no problem showing the faces of the Japanese...

Even weirder: Just watched Faux news. They gave the hostages's name: "Thomas Hamill"", but they still hid the face. Oddle, even as they showed video of the gut with his face vocered by a big circle obscuring it, the reporter said "we previosuly couldn't show his face but now his wife knows, so we can show it". But they were still covering it! Something is odd.

My guess: He is actually a spook (undercover intelligence) and they are hiding his face for the same reason that they don't show undercover cops. Also, I'm sure the name is fake.

Interested in other opinions.

1. How would the media know he was a spook?
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 08:10 PM by VolcanoJen
I'm kinda leaning that way, but how would CNN, MSNBC, Fox, et al come to the decision to conceal his identity for reasons of national security?

In other words, who are they taking their orders from?

Seems to me that they likely concealed his face to protect his family, but if as Fox says, the family has been informed, then I really don't understand the purpose in concealing him.

3. They released his name, age, and hometown...
It makes NO sense.

FOX would take any orders given to them by the Agency, and so I suspect would CNBC and CNN.

But I don't know about CNN cause they have practically hd anews blackout all day and are now showing religious programming.

2. It was on NWI
I don't know who he is, he didn't look none too happy in the back seat of that car. Not scared, particularly, just unhappy. He was definitely a security guy of some sort, big burly guy. If he was CIA, he didn't do too great of a job of trying to hide his identity. He could have turned his head away, but he didn't. He wanted them to get his face on film and his name. And that was it. The crew that took the film was Australian. I think it was on one of the Canadian broadcasts this morning.

6. NWI = News World International
I think... it's a cable channel which broadcasts news from around the world. Also, SkeptyCal, CNN-Financial runs the CNN-International feed all weekend, so if you're hungry for hard, real-time news ('cause you won't get it from the American cable news networks), hunt down CNN-Financial on your digital cable system.

:D

7. I saw the same NWI report...stocky guy...
short hair, big moustache and with a pronounced Southern accent (maybe Texas)...and I agree: he seemed more pissed off than frightened. It could almost have been a scene from "COPS".

Going from a couple of days of CNN over to NWI, holy shit! I don't know why I hadn't turned them on to see what was really going on. When I did, it's like coming out of a cocoon. Oh my gosh, there's a whole world of shit going on. I knew it was worse than what Baghdad Don was saying, but geezo, it's really BAD!! Did you see the clip of that convoy, and people with guns hanging out the windows, barreling down the highway? Unfreakin' believable. Then there's the clip of the statue square where they're warning everybody to stay away or they'll be shot. If people saw that stuff, they would go flip side.

15. My 73 year old mother today dragged me to the TV...
...and pointed to the NWI channel (they get direct TV for the baseball games) and said "See? this is what I watch when I want to know what's really going on!" Rock on Mom!
