The US has been occupying Kuwait since before the first Gulf war and there is no democracy there. Women can't even vote in Kuwait. WTF?

1. Worse still is Saudi Arabia
One of the most repressive regimes on earth and abusers of human rights. But we're their best friend:mad:

2. The American people...
... were told by Poppy before the Gulf War that we were fighting for democracy, and I guess they believed it.

It doesn't matter if it's true or not--what matters is if enough people believe it... that's democracy.

3. Me thinks democracy only became important after no WMDs were found
in Iraq....Funny, how we hear nary a mention of WMDs these days....It's all "we're freeing the great people of Iraq and bringing them democracy!"....They forget to say "whether they want it or not!"

4. Or any other muslim "ally" that the US cherishes so much....
:eyes:
Seriously though, under Saddam, women had more rights than in
neighboring countries... People were much more "free" to do things
outside muslim laws in Saddam's Iraq than in neighboring Saudi
Arabia...

Question is....why?

Why can't Kuwait be the example for freedom and democracy in that part of the world?

10. When was America ever concerned with democracy?
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 08:49 PM by downstairsparts
In Haiti maybe? Guatemala perhaps? Venezuela maybe? Installing the Shah in Iran then, yes that's it. And Chile, of course. Let me go look for my list of all the places where we've supported democracy.

14. Democracy?
The US Govt. does not believe in Democracy. USA is a Plutocracy. In fact the CIA has directly &/or indirectly overthrown Democracies that leaned too far to the left. Examples: Chile, Iran, Guatamla, Haiti for starters.

15. Take away that argument, we're still left with the same condundrum
Either BushCo are complete idiots or they're lying, thieving, murederous turds. We never can tell for certain which it is.

If they believe their own drivel, they may be merely incompetent blockheads. How could they believe such transparently foolish arguments? That's tough to answer. Think of the simplicity and elegance of Don's rejoinder, and then ask yourself how it could be that such a sharp argument hasn't put the kibosh on all this PNACkian bring democracy to Iraq chatter.

My own hunch is that some of the BushCo board members are idiots, and others are lying, thieving, murderous turds. Since as a group they place a premium personal friendships and loyalty, we may as well treat the lot of them as a criminal conspiracy and render the question of any one conspirator's intent moot. There's no excuse for having such nasty friends, much less letting them run your life.

17. Ha! It's not about democracy.
It's about making the people in America think our motives are always pure as the driven snow, not about global hegemony. You've got to keep the myths out there.
