Two U.S. Troops, Civilians Missing in Iraq -Official

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Two American troops and an unknown number of civilian contractors are missing in Iraq (news - web sites) after an attack on a fuel convoy west of Baghdad, a Defense Department official said on Friday.

"We do have the two U.S. service members unaccounted for, and an unknown number of contractors," said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

No other details of those missing were immediately available.

Witnesses at the scene of the convoy attack said at least nine people were killed. Several vehicles were ablaze and overturned.

...I have seen minimal mention of these soldiers on MSRNC and CNN today. WTF? :grr:

3. the media is in DEEP denial about what's happening
i.e. The U.S. military is getting its ASS kicked.

Nobody really wants to admit that.

None of this was supposed to happen. It wasn't in the talking points.

They simply have NO IDEA how to spin it in such a way that will make their corporate masters happy.

That's why we have the CNN poll today about .... Madonna.

4. Has there been much concern about the 651 killed?
Neither by the President or the press. So it doesn't surprise me that 2 missing soldiers is not being talked about much.

This is the worst thing that can happen to you over there. It is far better to be killed than captured by these maniacs.

A television image aired on an Arabic television station April 10, 2004 shows a U.S. hostage in front of an Iraqi flag who Qatar-based Al Jazeera television said identified himself as Thomas Hamill. Iraqi kidnappers said in a tape aired on an Arabic television station they would kill and maim a U.S. hostage they had seized unless American forces lifted the siege of Falluja. Photo by Reuters Tv/Reuters

there seems to be 6 American hostages...TWO of which are American soldiers...the Iraqis have given America 12 hours to get our soldiers OUT of their "mosque city" or they will tortue and presumably KILL OUR soldiers and American mercenaries on OUR Easter Sunday TV shows....bush* is busy fishing on his ranch and privately cuddling condi...

there are also 3 Japanese hostages, who will be BURNED ALIVE on Easter Sunday TV shows, unless the Japanese withdraw their troops...

Protesters holding portraits of three Japanese hostages in Iraq demand the withdrawal of Japanese troops at a rally in Tokyo April 10, 2004. Japan issued a videotaped demand for the release of three Japanese hostages in Iraq, with less than 24 hours to go before a deadline set by the kidnappers for Japanese troops to leave Iraq to save the captives' lives. Photo by Issei Kato/Reuters

AND there are these TWO German hostages...

Iraqi newspaper Al Raqeeb displays pictures April 10, 2004 of two men it said the German Embassy in Baghdad had confirmed went missing on April 7 on a road near the volatile Sunni town of Falluja. More foreigners were reported missing or seized as hostages in Iraq after a spate of kidnappings, which included three Japanese civilians under threat of being killed Sunday. Two German security officials were reported missing while traveling from Jordan to Baghdad, the German Foreign Ministry said. Photo by Reuters

here's another 'missing' person, from England...

Undated family photo released Saturday April 10, 2004, of Gary Teeley, the British civilian who has been missing in Iraq for six days. The laundry firm consultant and married father-of-five, originally from southeast London, was believed to be working for a Qatari firm in the southern Iraqi city of Nasiriyah when he disappeared on Monday. (AP Photo/ HO)

so, in summary, IMO, there's about to be some 'reality TV' on Easter Sunday, as Iraq shows America how they do 'public executions'....

Apr. 8, 2004 Around midnight on April 6, Fadi Fadel, who works for the International Rescue Committee in Najaf, was taken from the IRC staff residence by members of a local militia.

Mr. Fadel, 33, is a Syrian-born Canadian citizen who manages a UNICEF-funded program that provides humanitarian assistance for vulnerable children and youth in southern Iraq. These activities have included the rehabilitation of a youth center in Al Ansar, the distribution of wheelchairs to injured children in Najaf and support to local schools.

Mr. Fadel is a committed humanitarian aid worker who is in Iraq solely to assist conflict-affected Iraqi communities. On humanitarian grounds, we appeal to his captors to release him unharmed.

19. I'm WILLING a neighbor of mine
BACK HERE AND OUTTA THERE. He's an idealistic 20 something with a TON of energy and ideas. I always give him :eyes: at some of his pro-Ami stuff. He high-tailed it back to Iraq the DAY SH was ousted, having not been able to contact his family for 3 months. Brought me back one of those hand nimbered Dinar notes. (Would that I could convert it and ameliorate a few cash-flow issues. ;-) )

This exercise in death, destruction and hatred is truly wearing my last nerve. What is WRONG with you, "WE THE PEOPLE?" Get your mofo-tech-hyped-*corp-fed-MIC OUTTA THERE. NOW. This mission, if you choose to accept it, is ONLY the first step to your survival.

while showing videos of a man that is supposedly an American who is being held hostage. He's in civilian clothes, and CNN has done something to the image so you can't see his face.

Now Why the hell are we paying more attention to him than our own missing soldiers?!

<In the latest in a string of kidnappings this week, Australia's ABC television showed an American civilian being taken away in a car by fighters after an attack on a fuel convoy near Baghdad on Saturday. The man spoke with a southern American accent and identified himself as Thomas Hamill.>

2 grunts missing, who dey be?? 4 hired assassins barbecued (forgive me that I do not more respectfully mourn their fate) and the result is 500 civilians dead and 60,000 refugees.

Look, Leftchick, we KNOW the *cartel is killing us and ours, them and theirs, to line their pockets with $$$WHAT$$$? It's OUT. "The Looking Glass" got NOTHING on this shit.

15. I wonder how many Iraqi's are missing or unaccounted for....
How many have simply disappeared? I don't have much sympathy for foreign soldiers engaged in a brutal and illegal occupation. As for the "contractors," I'll wait and see who they really are and under what circumstances they were in Iraq.

IT'S CALLED LEARNED HELPLESSNESS! It is the message that problems are so overwhelming and hopeless, that there's no reason for you to act.

A few here, a few there, what can you do?

Well, y'know, war is ugly, what can you do?

Freedom ain't free, what can you do?

They hate us for our freedom, what can you do?

You gotta break a few eggs to make an omellete, what can you do?

They chose to be there, what can you do?

We must fight evil, what can you do?

Times are tough, what can you do?

They're just following orders, what can you do?

We must fight terrorism, what can you do?

He's our president, what can you do?

They know things they can't tell us, what can you do?

They are led by evil leaders, what can you do?

The press always shows things as going badly, what can you do?

I can't save the world, what can you do?

Hey, I've got bills to pay, what can you do?

They started this war against us, what can you do?

There will always be war 'cause that's people, what can you do?

That part of the world is just a mess, what can you do?

25. leftchick.... are the missing soldiers part of this group?
We have got to follow every bit of emerging news for clues to their whereabouts.

04/11 02:45 am Footage Shows American Kidnapped by Insurgents

Meanwhile, a group calling itself the "Marytr Ahmed Yassin Brigades" in the city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad and Fallujah, claimed in videotape obtained by APTN to have 30 hostages from a variety of countries.

The footage, also aired on Al-Arabiya TV, showed no images of any hostages, and there was no way to verify the group's claim to be holding "Japanese, Bulgarians, Americans, Israelis, Spanish and Koreans, a total of 30 individuals."

"If the siege of Fallujah is not lifted, we will cut off their heads," a masked man on the videotape said.

He also said his fighters killed four American soldiers and said "we have their bodies." The tape showed an image of a body with bloody khaki pants and covered with a blanket, said to be one of the U.S. soldiers.
