North Korea says standoff with US at "brink of nuclear war"

North Korea said Friday the standoff over its atomic ambitions was on the brink of nuclear war as US Vice President Dick Cheney headed to the region for talks with key Asian allies.

The Stalinist state's official news agency accused Washington of "driving the military situation on the Korean peninsula to the brink of a nuclear war" with plans for a pre-emptive strike on North Korea.

Cheney is expected in Tokyo on Saturday on the first leg of an Asian tour that also takes him to China and South Korea.

In the 50's MAD Mag did a parody of the NY DAily News, full of sensational articles about fires and robberies and a million really funny ads. Around one of the furniture ads on page 77 was an article whose headline sort of read, "Nuclear War Breaks Out, Millions Flee for Lives" sub-head was "End of the World as We Know It".

This is what's happening today - it's more important that we see Janet's breast fallout than the fact that there are multiple countries arming themselves against us, that it's happening as we speak. Very frightening...

1. I hate to say it but...
hearing this crap makes me think twice about not supporting a missle shield...If just one nuke makes it through, imagine what will happen...cancelled elections, martial law, nuclear war...millions of dead Americans and 10 million+ dead Koreans...

who knows what China will do?

scary times.

2. A missile shield is not designed to guard against cruise missiles
Only ICBMs. That is why cruise missile technology is all the rage these days with our enemies. Cruise missiles take a little longer to get here but the effect is identical to an ICBM. They can be launched from sea, air, or land.

10. How many missiles do you think a missile shield would stop?
Anyone launching a missile would have the upper hand. So many decoys could be launched the a missile shield would be almost useless. Besides, the people really after us are using their own bodies. Do we have a body shield?

12. Well, if it helps
you'll get a chance to test your comfort level when Dubya deploys the first missile shield components in Alaska late this summer.

3. Well, this makes for a happy easter.
And the worst part is we can't threaten him with invasion. We have no troops left.

6. i heard last nite on randi rhodes.
and on a handful of reports she said one stated cheney threatened pre emptive strike with nuclear

i went downstairs just yelling at husband. was pissed about a lot of things, media not allowed to talk, hardball off since his report of condi in morning after hearing, and all happening in iraq and none on the news

so i am yelling. he is republican, not voting for bush but hard to see the horrible of bush. and we have boys, i am yelling about their future and be mad

so if anyone finds the site where it state cheney said pre emptive strike with nuclear i would appreciate. he went thru about 8 sites reading on n korea statement and none of them suggested this

thanks

You know what...it doesn't matter at this point. If he can't see it, he just can't see it. these folk are not moved by the smae impulses which move some of us. It's OK - sounds like you have a cohesive family otherwise (I hope) and you move past this into other things.

If however, you can make him think on Election Day AM that you 'just want to have fun' and tie him up until the polls close, that's OK too.

very cohesive, this is the only fragment and generally allow it to be. thanks for the reminder. last couple days, oh oh it is air america and randi rhodes that has me pumped. and a nuke strike just riled me. but you are right. thanks..........

let it be

breathe out, wink. i like the tie up suggestion too. lol lol

actually he is doing well for who he is. for whatever reason, it is so hard for these people to own what is up. it is ok.

8. I dunno about a preemptive nuke strike
but if the neocon crew have put Plan 5030 in action, it would go a ways in explaining PRK's current distress. Click on the first couple of links in this Google search for Plan 5030.

14. good info
so how they first came into office and idea with n korea and what that says, cheney in japan and his possible comment, and bush being kicked out of office, my feel

they are going to get battle going with this, total chaos. no troops so gonna have to be air and missile and mass bombing

we have gotten venezuala going, started afghanistan messed them up and left, did hte same in iraq and not enough troops to put in, haiti and leaving in mess and now korea.
