I was wrong about Bush.
I have been posting here for six months or so (as far as I can remember) and probably lean towards the conservative end of the DU spectrum. I have often run across comments to the effect of "Bush could have done so much more to prevent 9/11", at which I always scoffed. I have never been quick to embrace conspiracy theories as I perceive them, and I have been slow to accept just how bad the Bush administration really is. I think I gave them too much benefit of the doubt.

But after seeing all that is going on with the 9/11 commission, reading about the briefings that seemed to warn about al Qaeda using planes and the like, remembering how Bush did his best to stonewall the commission, etc, etc, etc, I have to admit, I was wrong. I defended Bush too much. I think there are probably a lot of Democrats like me who always thought he was a horrible president but who are amazed at just how horrible he is!

I hope we can send these people back to Texas where they belong. And here's to those at DU who were several steps ahead of the rest of us. :)

1. it is hard for good people to believe anyone can be this evil
It is UNBELIEVEABLE.

check out what this well respected schoalor has to say about this admin and 911 if you haven't already.

Thinking Unthinkable Thoughts
Theologian Charges White House
Complicity in 9/11 Attack
by Nick Welsh

There’s nothing the least bit wild-eyed or hysterical about David Ray Griffin. In person, he’s disarmingly calm, and speaks in the unflappably precise and deliberate style of a lifelong academic. Which is exactly what Griffin is. A respected philosopher of religion at the Claremont School of Theology since the 1970s and longtime Santa Barbara resident, Griffin is now raising questions that even President Bush’s harshest critics are afraid to think, let alone ask aloud.
In his latest book, The New Pearl Harbor — released just two weeks ago — Griffin all but accuses the Bush administration of taking a dive on September 11 and giving Al Qaeda terrorists an unobstructed shot at the World Trade Center. According to Griffin, a case can be made that the Bush administration arranged the attack, or allowed it to happen. He is aware that he may be dismissed as a conspiracy nut, but given the “transcendent importance” of the issue, Griffin is willing to assume that risk and has taken to repeating Michael Moore’s line on the subject: “Personally, I’m not into conspiracy theories except those that are true.” I met with Griffin over coffee to discuss his book and the September 11 investigation. The following is an edited account of their conversation.

3. The only thing Bush is sucessful at is uniting democrats
I'm sorry that the only true things about our president are the bad things.

I hope that this inspires you to work that much harder to get rid of the free loading POS.

9. problem with this
writer is that he gives a lot of credence to the
"Pentagon was not hit by a plane" theory, ..fair enough, but
I understand that there were literally hundreds of witnesses who saw a
plane coming in low over the highway that day, and
I've never heard an explanation of why that is.

2. Conspiracy Laws
CONSPIRACY - 18 U.S.C. 371 makes it a separate Federal crime or offense for anyone to conspire or agree with someone else to do something which, if actually carried out, would amount to another Federal crime or offense. So, under this law, a 'conspiracy' is an agreement or a kind of 'partnership' in criminal purposes in which each member becomes the agent or partner of every other member.

In order to establish a conspiracy offense it is not necessary for the Government to prove that all of the people named in the indictment were members of the scheme; or that those who were members had entered into any formal type of agreement; or that the members had planned together all of the details of the scheme or the 'overt acts' that the indictment charges would be carried out in an effort to commit the intended crime.

Also, because the essence of a conspiracy offense is the making of the agreement itself (followed by the commission of any overt act), it is not necessary for the Government to prove that the conspirators actually succeeded in accomplishing their unlawful plan.

12. Love your scarlet "L'
My name is "Scarletlib" and I have been calling myself this for many years. Not for "scarlet o'hara" as some have thought; but in recognition of Hester Prynne of "The Scarlet Letter". Today the scarlet letter is indeed the letter "L" for liberal. I wear my scarlet letter as a liberal proudly and without shame.

21. Thanks!
Most people thought the L was for "Laverne" (as in Laverne & Shirley) until I added the messages above and below the pic.

BTW, that L patch is an exact replica of Hester's (as described in the novel).

8. Warning, hell. He was threatened
He spent his nights at the Genoa G8 summit in July on an aircraft carrier because the Italians got word that Osama was going to try to fly an airliner into his hotel. Bush fucking knew.

5. Bush isn't from Texas.. i believe he was born in New Hampshire
He is a prepie frat boy, a wet brain drunk drug addict... real person wanna be... but just a pathetic puppet of the NEOCON's.

when this is all over we must not FORGET that it was the NEOCON's.. they will try to pin it all on W.. But it was a result of NEOCON Ideology... And they will be back.. if they ever leave at all

11. I hate to admit it
but he was born in Connecticut.

His father was a student at Yale, and he was born in Yale-New Haven Hospital.

He's always tried to repudiate it, though, and insists he's "a Texan."

They can have him!

6. If Cheney actually were forced to reveal the energy meeting docs...
I'm sure our jaws would drop to see how fully the whole Iraq war was planned out from day one, and how they were looking for any excuse to start it. That is why he absolutely must keep those meeting proceedings secret, at any cost.

It truly IS horrifying to process all of this information. It is just so awful to think that anyone could be so evil, but that is undeniably the case. These people will allow any number of killings for just a little more money and power.

10. Penance: Tell all your friends, and I mean ALL of them
:-)

The degree of how horrible bush is, is, well, uh, inconceivable.

During the 2000 election/constitutional crisis, I remember telling a co-worker, "oh goodness, in Florida, bush's brother is the governor. If he interfered or tried to tip the scale over to g. bush, that would ruin his credibility forever. So, in some ways, it might be a good thing that the gov of fla is related to g. bush. It would be too obvious if Jeb *did* do anything with even an appearance of impropriety. He would be run out of town."

Tell me who the town rube is now? ME!!!

16. Forgive yourself, you are not alone
We all tend to believe (until proven wrong) that no one would do something so obviously wrong. We tend to think that they give us credit for being able to detect glaring misbehaviours. They do not.
They do the obvious bad thing and get away with it because they believe that we are all:
a. too stupid to notice
b. too stupid to do anything about it
c. too stupid to be able to make others see the wrong
d. all of the above.

you pick

13. Good on you, leyton
Glad we could help you. DU is an important part of getting real facts out to the People such as yourself. Yeah, at times we get a little overboard, but really, as you have proven, DU is based on reality.

I know it has been hard to accept what a bunch of crooks we've got as our leaders. Hell, for weeks and weeks, it hurt me deeply to face up to this fact: How in the world could Americans be so fucked up?

It is up to us to unite and conquer these criminals. We are the Democratic Underground, and we've only just begun to fight!

14. the L word
Neocons love to use the term liberal like it is some horrible thing. Look how many Dems have been urged to move to the middle - disown the liberal element in the party. It's castration by the right to ensure democratic defeat.

17. Bush is only in office to make money
for his cronies and for his family. Someone at DU three years ago pointed this out, and I believe it. As I've watched the years go by, everything that has come out of the Bush whitehouse has led to more $$$$$$ for Bush friends and family, including 911. He cares about nothing --- NOTHING --- else. This has helped me to understand the utterly unbelievable things that Bush has done. Here's a recent article called Profiteering First Family about this very thing.

I believe someone else posted this on DU today as well.

I originally supported Bu$h. But I saw the error of my ways, as you have now. Liberals, you'll find, are very forgiving (unlike their fire and brimstone reactionary counterparts). We're just happy that you now see the light. Happy Easter!
