NYT: BUSH KNEW | and went on vacation...
President Bush was told more than a month before the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, that supporters of Osama bin Laden planned an attack within the United States with explosives and wanted to hijack airplanes, a government official said Friday.

The warning came in a secret briefing that Mr. Bush received at his ranch in Crawford, Tex., on Aug. 6, 2001. A report by a joint Congressional committee last year alluded to a "closely held intelligence report" that month about the threat of an attack by Al Qaeda, and the official confirmed an account by The Associated Press on Friday saying that the report was in fact part of the president's briefing in Crawford.

The disclosure appears to contradict the White House's repeated assertions that the briefing the president received about the Qaeda threat was "historical" in nature and that the White House had little reason to suspect a Qaeda attack within American borders.

1. Hey Now!!!
I remember. That was a "working vacation".
Seriously, I do not think Senator Graham (who should be our next President) thought the PBD memo was "historical". It obviously was one of the things he wished to discuss last year, but his honor would not let him breach the confidence.

3. I guess I don't understand
what did she mean by "historical"? Of course I know it's a cover story but still, what does it mean? That historically they've always wanted to bash our innards? I mean what?

11. It was all about the past - old musty boring stuff that didn't matter
is the jist of her assertion

However if that is really so, why do they need the weekend to redact portions of it before releasing?

16. It means that Bid Laden wanted to attack inside the US LAST WEEK
(since that's when they got the communications intercept) but he's probably over it and doesn't want to attack THIS WEEK. See?

2. Now we know why they wanted the Aug 6th PDB kept secret
"What do you want to be when you grow up"?

"I want to be President".

6. And bush knew what was in cheney's energy task force
Plans to take over Iraqi oil fields. All those plans needed was a trigger mechanism. I'll just go on vacation, let it happen, then will begin obfuscating and immediately point the finger at Iraq. They will greet us with roses as great liberators. Wow, that wolfowitz, what a brilliant mind. And yet, no one has been fired.

Moveon.org summed it up succinctly - george bush, a failure of leadership.

17. Cheney had the perfect setup for his Energy Task Force.
He first manufactured an energy crisis in California with the help of his cronies at Enron, Dynegy and Reliant. To solve this nonexistent Energy Crisis he called in the same set of crooks and developed a
rationale to hold up Iraq and seize its oil fields. He was even present at the Situation Room when the plane hit the Pentagon.
According to Norman Mineta, he forbade taking action against that plane.I don't know how, given this evidence, anyone can say that he did not have foreknowledge of the event and was an active conspirator to boot.

This administration is beginning to resemble the Mafia on a more colossal scale everyday.

12. So why isn't Frist demanding an investigation
to find out if Condi committed perjury? Or at the least, get up and take back the nasty accusations and threats that he made to Richard Clarke? I know, being a repug means never having to say you're sorry. Bastards.

14. Historical = doesn't help us hype Star Wars.
Building Star wars and enriching the military industrial corporations was the focus of the Bush cabal, not protecting the American people.

15. Noticed in the very last part of the article
a little turd dropped by Bob Kerrey about Clinton...that he did have enough info to take action after the Cole. I find Kerrey really creepy.

19. He IS creepy.
Edited on Sat Apr-10-04 08:43 AM by Octafish
The things he's seen and done make him that way.

Regarding Clinton and the USS Cole: By bringing it up, Kerrey opens the door to discussing WHY Clinton didn't order war. Clinton has stated he didn't because he wasn't sure who ordered the attack until January 2001 when the CIA confirmed it was Al Qaeda. By then, Clinton said he didn't want to start a war as a lame duck, leaving a foreign policy crisis for the incoming badministration. Clinton remembered the flaming turd that was left on the White House porch by the lame-duck Poppy: Somalia.

EDIT: Typo.

20. Even the Evil Heart of CorpGovMedia has turned against Bush
I guess they find him TOO blatantly rapacious a looter, so that too many sheeple can see the man behind the curtain.

CorpGovMedia has started to usher Bush out the door. I wager they feel more comfortable with a less obvious looter....
