[Bumper sticker] "Real soldiers are dying in their Hummers..."
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 10:40 PM by scottxyz
"...So you can play a soldier in yours."

Ow!

This was from long-time CA activist Medea Benjamin on AirAmericaRadio today (the 9AM-to-noon show with Chuck D and Rachel).

= = =

They also mentioned:

"Anyone notice how at the Oscars, all the "cool" people came in their Hybrids, all the kinda "not cool" people came in things like stretch Hummers?"

= = =

April 22 (Earth Day) is gonna be some kind of nationwide anti-Hummer day.

1. True story

Two weeks ago, I went to rent a tuxedo. The rental place had (and I am not joking) two stretch EXCURSIONS. I would guess that those vehicles get six gallons to the mile while PARKED.

Jessica Simpson periodically travels in SUV limos. Any connection to that fact and scottxyz's Oscar observation is purely coincidental.

2. Speaking of Hummers, I saw one today and it looked stupid
I haven't seen too many Hummers lately, I guess that $1.70 a gallon burns a hole in the pocket real quick with one of those. Anyway, a year or so ago when Hummers first hit big time, even I (a Honda Civic owner) thought for a second that those Hummers look kinda cool - you know, the novelty and all.

Well, today in the church parking lot (being Good Friday I went) I saw a huge, yellow Hummer parked alongside two cars but not in a parking space because of the size - and thought, wow, does that thing look kinda stupid and out of place. How arrogant can you get?

I mean, WWJD (What Would Jesus Drive)? He'd drive a Civic, of course.

3. I wish I could find gas for $1.70
here it's 2.33 (California). There is a website named fuh2.com where people take pictures of their fingers flipping off Hummers and they just post them there. It's pretty funny. I live in Orange County, CA and there are tons of Hummers here. We flip off every one we see, just for fun.

4. As a point of anal-retentivity...
The Army model is the HMMWV. The chickenhawk-Rambo-wannabe model is the Hummer.
