Reverend Fred Phelps comes to Seattle UGH!
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 09:57 PM by Cascadian
Yep. The Reverend Fred "God Hates Fags" Phelps and his flock of weirdos are visiting my hometown this weekend. Coming to torment us all with his un-Christian and un-righteous spew.

Let's all go and give him a "welcome" , shall we? (sarcasm!)

3. God, I am so tired of that asshole
These putrid hypocrites make me sick. They go around preaching the parts of the Bible they like, but the other parts, like "Love thy neighbor" are completely ignored.

They think that simply because they call themselves Christians that they have the right to push their Dark age superstition upon us intelligent folks. It is putrid. It is vile. So many of these evangelical demagogues exploit the stupidity of the masses and their inherent predjudices based not on fact or substance but rather on a lack of it. All their reasons for opposing gay marriage are only cogent and sensible if one's cerebration is devoid of logic.

Did you know that homosexual teenagers are three to six more times likely to commit suicide than heterosexuals?SIX! These bigots are entirely responsible for this heinous count. More than likely it's because they see no way out. They sit at the dinner table and hear their mom and dad joke and insult about 'fags' and 'queers', they go to school where everything which people find obnoxious or idiotic they deem 'gay'. They are told by their ministers and community that God hates them, that he despises them, spits on them. They are told that an eternal punishment awaits them for simply how they were born.

They are coerced by predjudices and superstitions to conceal, to veil who they really are, just like the women of Afghanistan in their burkas. They both attacked and assaulted if they violate these societal rules. They become depressed at all these terrible revelations. They grow despondent due to the cruel 'fag' jokes their friends tell, outwardly laughing along just to fit in but inside they are torn apart to see their closest confidants and comrades gibing and humiliating the way God made them. They have no one to share this burden with, not friends, not family, not teachers nor counselors. To them, not even God himself will listen to their plight.

The government seems to be telling them that they are not welcom in this country. Their parents, grandparents, friends, pastors, and neighbors are all saying that they are an abomination. How could you call an innocent person an ABOMINATION for simply being born?

Every drop of blood spilt as a result of these bourgeios bastards and their Mideival superstitions is on the hands of all these bigots. That is what they are, fucking bigots.

4. Wow. Sorry for you all, but

Thank You Seattle for getting that sorry excuse for a human and his family/followers out of my neck of the woods for a little while.

Kidding. He and his band of merry troopers are scary and obscene. They bring their small children with them. I chuckled when I read the site you posted and someone suggested bringing posters depicting SAME SEX! Hah! They need not bother because Phelps and his "church" members already do that. It's a delightful little parade through which to make your way when you are trying to attend a memorial celebration, or a performance, or an art exhibit, or a church service.

Please don't paint Kansans with the God Hates Fags lunacy. And, don't incite Phelps' followers to further hatefulness. Counter-protest, peaceful and lucid (which they are not) seems to shut them down quick.

In my town, Phelps organized and publicized a typically nasty demonstration against some high school play. A local organizer for an AIDS/HIV support group asked people to pledge money for every minute Phelps' group demonstrated. People were pledging even 20 cents a minutes, others a dollar. Phelps' little band lasted about thirty minutes, with only a quiet show of presence (but larger in numbers of people) to oppose them. The Good Samaritan Project raised hundreds of dollars, maybe more (it's been 5 or 6 years ago, I can't remember, but it was substantial $$).

Give in the name of Phelps' church to the organization they hate most. You will never feel so good about giving money, and you can have the organization notify Fred that a donation has been given, in his honor, to (fill in the blank that will piss off Fred.)

These folks are nuts, folks. Don't bother arguing.

Kim

My edit: The Good Samaritan Project would love for Reverend Phelps and his church members to come and picket an event again. The Project or (fill in the blank with whatever organization that will piss off Fred) could use the infusion of cash; it turns out to be quite a successful fundraiser and it doesn't cost the Project a dime except for cost of word-of-mouth. And now email. Fred, Fred, Kumbaya. We love you here, Fred. Especially the men (hahaha).

9. I think the solution
Well, I can't say it either. He absolutely astounded my 10 year old child on the way to a performance. My kid got the picture pretty quickly, especially when his dad and I laughed and a very "proper" looking woman yelled "Shouldn't you be in church? It's Sunday.". And to be truthful, it seemed to be three or four men, and four or five women, and four or five children. All showing us signs of doggy sex.

Donate in their name. And let them know.

Kim
