My quick answer to right wing email.
Have any of you noticed how much Right Wing email flies around the internet these days? I think that Republicans, with all their corporate money, can afford to pay people to sit around and spread this bullshit propaganda around the internet. Anyway, I typed up something today, and it's going to be my quick answer any time I get one of those stupid emails. It's quick and simplified, and it focuses on economic issues, b/c that's what most of those stupid right wing emails focus on. (They always talk about "wasting tax money on lazy people who don't want to work.") Here it is. What you you all think?

Text I'm so sick of right wing emails being spread around everywhere. Republicans have so much corporate money to use that they can just pay people to sit around and spread complete and utter bullshit around the web. All these emails do is attack liberals, attack liberals, attack liberals. Of course, they can’t back any of their scathing attacks with actual facts or evidence, so they just resort to name-calling: “cry-baby liberals,” “liberal bed-wetters,” so on and so forth.

I'm not getting paid, but I'll answer these myself. And I’ll use actual facts to back up my arguments. The only person I see wasting tax money is the president, along with the republican congress -- people who call themselves "fiscal conservatives"- who have given us a RECORD high budget and the RECORD budget deficit: $455 billion! The only time in the past 50 years when government spending actually DECREASED is when Bill Clinton first took office, and you know what? He had a Democratic congress!! That's right, the Democrats are the ones who actually DECREASED spending. Bush is spending like crazy and giving us GIGANTIC budget deficits.

A few more things I'll get off my chest now. It seems like some corporate fascist Republicans -- along with all their numerous cronies in the media -- want us to totally dismantle all government programs, labor laws and environmental laws. You know what? WE TRIED THAT BEFORE!! People who actually read history books should know a thing or two about the 1920's. There was very little government intervention in the economy, and want to know what happened? Look it up. ALL of the money in the entire land went to 2% of the people, and the other 98% lived HORRIBLE lives. They worked 80-hour weeks under terrible conditions -- many even died on the job -- and barely made enough money to pay rent in small, disgusting apartments. And then, under Republican Herbert Hoover, in the hey-day or "trickle-down," "government-free" economics, we hit the GREAT DEPRESSION! It seems like many idiots who listen to Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter would like us to return to those days. Don't worry, George Bush is doing a good job of getting us there.

By the way, here are some questions for all you who think government is such a terrible thing. How many of you went to public schools? Incase your brain is as small as Sean Hannity's, I'll tell you that the money for that comes from TAX DOLLARS. Have any of you gone to state colleges? Do you know why you pay such cheap tuition? You pay very little because it gets money from the STATE! That's tax money going to good use. What about financial aid for college? How many of you with children benefit from the earned income tax credit? How many of you have benefited from unemployment insurance when you were laid off? How many of you are happy to be working 8-hr days instead of the 16-hr days that were required in the 20's? If you benefit from any of these, thank LIBERALS, without whom you wouldn't be where you are today.

1. Excellent!
You manage to fit all of the important things in in just a few paragraphs, and without resorting to the type of bullying emotional name-calling the repukes are so fond of and famous for!

3. Thank you!
That's especially flattering coming from a historian, since you would know if my facts were correct. :-)

2. A fine all-purpose response
The only thing you'll have to change is that $455 billion budget deficit. According to the OMB report, that $455 billion is only through the end of July. By the end of the fiscal year at the end of September, they're projecting a $698 billion deficit.

5. I like the "past is prologue" approach and use it myself....
...when I encounter wingnut idiocy; for example:

Deregulation.
Regulation was introduced because of the pervasive abuses of unfettered capitalism - starting with the railroad robber barons (ICC) and the other monopolists of the Gilded Age (SEC etc).

Dismantle the EPA.
Remember what the cities looked like in the late 60s? The near death of Lake Erie? The burning Cuyahoga River? DDT?
IF you want a preview of life without the EPA, take a trip Mexico City.

Dismantle Social Security.
Anybody remember the "poorhouse"? Debtors prison? These were real places for those unfortunates without safety nets.

...and so on and so on.

A fun exercise to which the RWs have little response. You're not speculating how bad their policy will be - we've SEEN it already.
