What is the job description of the National Security Adviser?
I'm genuinely curious and have to no avail scoured the net for this information. I assume that an official job description must exist. Does it? Can you direct me to a link which gives such an official description?

Thanks,

RC

1. Its whatever the Pres wants it to be.
Its not a Constitutionally defined position, so the job description & requirements are up to the chief executive. In the case of the Bush administration, that description is heavily favored toward cold war paranoia and insanity.

6. Huh...then of what relevance is her testimony in front of the 9/11
commission? I mean...you know...if there isn't any definition or legislative mandate which lists her responsibilities they could be of no more import than vacuuming the rug in the Oval Office, no? According to Ms. Rice this must indeed be the case. Or in otherwords she can't offer any advice she has not been told to offer.

9. It is legislatively defined
It's supposed to be the person that brings all the information from the different departments together, and presents it to the President.

... which is exactly what Dr. Rice insisted was what was missing. So I have to wonder - why wasn't she doing her job?

5. Most important tasks for Condi seem to be:
1. Hype up the need for a massively expensive "missile defense" system that doesn't work, does not improve national security, but does enrich several military industries.
2. Be a token black women for PR purposes.
3. Help the President cover his ass when a serious breach of security occurs (but take no action to prevent that breach).

That's about it for this regime. I wish I was joking.

8. kick
come on folks...there has to be some sort of official job description for this position, don't you think? I can't believe it's up to the president...that would make him a king, would it not?
