News from ABC, NBC evening news
on ABC, there was a story how a reporters tapes of a public speech by judge Scalia were confiscated.

On NBC, there was a story about one of Clarke's assitants who reported that Ashcroft refused to put a priority on terrorism pre-9/11.

I can't keep up with all the stuff coming down!

At least the major media aren't covering this up.

1. at least in the case of Scalia
I think it's mainly a case of him personally being an asshole--i don't think it's a right-wing conspiracy

good to hear about NBC

2. Huh ... what was on the tapes?
And what on earth was the rationalization for justifying the seizure??

6. The story I read in the paper
Was that there was a misunderstanding between the media and Scalia's staff. The journalist thought that she was told it was okay to record the event (some events are allowed to be recorded, many are not - it's Scalia's call). A US marshall demanded that the recording be erased.

8. Because Scalia gets reviled if anyone writes his words down
and publishes them.

Which says to me that the man needs to be followed and miked.

10. I read..
in another thread that he was giving constitutionalist rhetoric. You know, women have no rights in the constitution, only the majority should have rights, etc.

The sezure was probably illegal, and the attention it is getting is probably much worse for him than if he hadn't done anything.

He's a real head case.

7. NBC story on Pickard/Ashcroft was quite good
said he was NOT interested in terrorism

talked about his seven point budget priority list; terror was not even on it!

15. Ashcroft was too busy covering boobs on statues
to worry about something petty as impending terrorism on U.S. soil.

11. New Orleans
Ashcroft was working on busting prostitution in New Orleans during the lead up to 9/11. Now in the midst of the Iraq War he is after Howard Stern. Let's all sing a hymn with big John, and remember no swaying, it's a sin.
