Freeper e-mail I got from my mother today
It had pictures of all of Kerry's homes and the point, I guess, was that he is trying to portray himself as the "common man" when he is not. But check out this little blurb that was at the bottom:

"He wants to raise income taxes on the rich, well, guess what? He won't pay those taxes because he is already rich! He wants to make it harder for you to get rich by raising taxes on your income!"

God, I'm depressed.

1. Well
That's not a huge contrast from Mr. "bring myself up by my own bootstraps with no help from my family connections" Bush.

2. Rich+GOP = Good Rich+Dem = Bad - Bizarro World
Think Goerge Washingotn, FDR, John Kennedy: Rich who did great things for this country.

Here's the snope's article on it:

3. Woah, lemme get this straight...
This is what the email says:

John Kerry is rich.

John Kerry wants to raise taxes on the rich.

John Kerry will not have to pay those taxes because he's already rich.

But... if he's rich and he's raising taxes on the rich.... doesn't that mean he's raising taxes on himself??

And if you're not rich, he's not raising taxes on you, so how does that prevent you from getting rich?

Am I the only one who sees the logic disconnect there?

5. Ding! Ding! Ding!
Give that man a cookie!

BTW, no one in my family could be considered "rich", yet they disseminate this garbage. That is why I'm so depressed.

8. That's typical freeper logic.
They're all bent out of shape in their twisted spin of reality.

9. first thing I noted as well
how does he avoid paying taxes on the rich... because he is rich.

Let's add a second point - the item claims that it prevents people from getting rich by taxing income (earned - that is based on productive work)... BUT this is exactly what bush's tax cuts and tax shifts have done - moved taxes off of non-work related income (e.g., interest gains on stocks) that mostly benefits the rich (does not effect mutual fund investments - which is what more middle class is invested in) - and shifts more tax burden to ... prodcutive/work income. So it is bush's tax policies, not Kerry's that have the result refered to in this email.

More examples of the death of logic and reason in political thought in the U.S.

4. "He won't pay those taxes because he is already rich!"
What sense does THAT make? :wtf:

Plus: Rich Democrats do not "portray themselves as the common man". That's what rich Republicans do.

Rich Democrats demonstrate that they CARE about the common man who may not have had the advantages they or their family did.

11. Did your mother ever hear of Franklin Roosevelt?
Having money doesn't mean you can't be a kick-ass president and a progressive. I'm assuming your mother is a Repub.

Yesterday too. I hit the reply all with this:

That's OK. Bush thinks he owns the White House now but I think he's about to get a little disclosure of his own
