In response to a question about Iraq at yesterday's hearing, Condi Rice said, "There was a discussion of Iraq. I think it was raised by Don Rumsfeld. It was pressed a bit by Paul Wolfowitz."
It was "pressed a bit by Paul Wolfowitz"? Just how much is a "bit"?
Her comments prove that the Administration was focusing on Iraq, but it doesn't tell us how much. She had earlier said that "Iraq was to the side" immediately after 9/11. However, according to the Washington Post, Bush had signed "a 2-and-a-half-page document marked 'TOP SECRET'" six days after 9/11 that "directed the Pentagon to begin planning military options for an invasion of Iraq."
Shouldn't the Commission pursue the PNAC involvement just a little deeper? And Bush and Cheney's commitment to the PNAC "theory"...
