Canadian taken hostage in Iraq

Canadian Press and Associated Press
Thursday, Apr. 8, 2004

Ottawa — (CP-AP)

A Canadian humanitarian aid worker was kidnapped in southern Iraq, the Foreign Affairs Department said Thursday.

Fadi Ihsan Fadel was taken hostage while doing work for the New York City-based International Rescue Committee, a non-governmental organization.

“We are currently seeking further information on his status, whereabouts and well-being and hope he will be released soon,” said Foreign Affairs spokesman Sameer Ahmed.

He would not confirm where Mr. Fadel was born, his age or where he lives in Canada. Mr. Ahmed also would not say where he was abducted or by whom.

They just, JUST announced it on the TV as I was making this post!

- no details though

I expect he'll get out ok,

What are they going to do ? Ask us to LEAVE?

We ain't even there! But could be some sort of immigration status?

I just don't know

2. Perhaps his name is enough
to have him branded as a traitor?

A Canadian with the name Fadi Ihsan Fadel during a time of Jihad against the West could create some perplexing problems for those who detest western ways?

3. Hmmm - I sorta doubt it

.

Canada has lots of people from almost all the countries in the world.

Now if the MURRIKKANS had him - that wouldn't surprise me

I don't know if you remember that Canuk they found in the States (legally) they KNEW he was a Candian citizen, but he was a born Syrian, so they sent him to Syria, where he spent almost a year in jail and torture before we got him back.

But we DID get him back.
