A few days ago, I predicted that every pundit would praise Condeleeza Rice's testimony today.

Apparently, I was wrong.

Why do you think the pundits aren't praising her?

3. Because she sucked. Her voice shook, she clearly was making all sorts
of lame apologies; she's transparent as glass, counting the days of the administration in days rather than months to make it sound like less time (!); not to mention the FACT that all the FACTS make it clear she HAS lied through her teeth to the American people COUNTLESS times if her testimony today is true. And that's damning enough, IMHO.

4. Expectations Game...She Got Upstaged
Ben Veniste's call for the PDB put Condi on her heels, created the soundbite and set the stage for the next part of this soap opera to play out.

Condi's job was to discredit Clarke once and for all...she didn't, make is look like her boss was doing more about terrorism than Clenis...wanna bet the commissioners were real glad to see Big Dog come walking right after Condi?...and she kept the story going. Now we need to see that PDB.

She blew it, big time.

6. Yep she opened more cans of worms
one of which is that PDB document.

The other is: aren't more pundits now talking about Ashcroft was not flying commercial during that time?

And the other is that Bush was in Crawford for most all of August 2001--more attention was paid to that today by the talking heads in the media. Primarily because of that PDB.

8. This Is Watergate-Style "Drip Drip Drip"
It doesn't happen quickly, but it sure gets out...we're seeing the slow unraveling of this regime on several fronts.

Condi represents the security side...she was supposed to be the firm, in-charge, modern woman who was going to "Ollie North" the panel and the pundits. She got off on a bad foot with her long rambling campaign speech...she should have just gone to the questions and saved her filibustering for her answers...which she did as well. She came off as windy, un-nerved and avoiding answering...honestly, this was a real, real, real bad day for RoveCo.

Kudos to the Democrats who hit her on several sides and she didn't answer quick and decisive...she waivered, she couldn't recall, she tap danced...and on key questions that made big soundbites we'll enjoy for weeks to come. While she didn't perjur herself in regards to Clarke's testimony, she didn't help the regime's case, either.

Also, one can't discount the big role the 9/11 widows have been playing...these are our real heroes. These ladies are relenteless on getting the information out and keeping the Commission on the straight and narrow. They emboldened the panel Democrats and scare the shit out of the Repugnicans.

Methinks Karl Rove is kicking himself in the ass tonight saying "New York, Septemeber...what the fuck was I drinking???"

16. That 'no fly' story needs to break big-time. That is huge, if that's not
enough evidence to indicate that this sorryass misadministration knew more that it's letting on, I don't know what is.

7. How about the name of the PDB on 8/6/01?
"Bin Laden determined to attack within the United States." That was pretty unbelievable (not to us of course but to the masses).

11. Oh but
That of course was only for "historical purposes."

Bin Laden would've had to send her a personal Hallmark greeting card on Sept. 10th to have taken her eyes off the defense cronies pushing their big bad missle defense system.

We had an invisible superpower to deal with, you know.

12. The announcement of that title is a very significant deal
This is going to grow. It sort of proves that the pig farmer would rather be out playing with his chainsaw than taking care of business. Is it lost on the citizens that he is doing the same thing now as Iraq burns?

21. title of that document coupled with cabinet members not flying commercial
needs to be kept front and center before the public's eyes. Throw in the question about why pilots were kept from shooting down the hijacked planes, even after the first hit, and a lot of wheels will start turning in a lot of heads formally keep in the sand,

9. not mediagenic
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Condi just was not made to be in front of TV cameras. Some people are, some aren't. She looks like she's being dishonest even when she's probably telling the truth.

22. It was like kindergarden time the way she presented herself
Maybe combined with Bush having to go hand-in-hand with Cheney in front of the commission, and Iraq exploding, even the most obtuse are starting to see what a farce this is. She so obviously showed that she was passive and incompetent in the face of serious warnings.

I was surprised too, I figured they would all claim how credible she was, no matter how much she was the opposite.

Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 01:57 AM by pmbryant
And, while the opening statement was decent (I cannot speak to whether it was factually correct), if read in a somewhat shaky voice, the rest of her "performance" was pathetic. Mere blame-shifting and ass-covering. And not with a self-confident delivery either. It was the performance of someone who clearly was not on top of things, either then or now.

Her answer for everything seemed to be: "No one told me about that." or "No one told me to do anything about that."

It made her seem like all she does is sit in her office waiting for people to come tell her what to do.

17. exactlly - and as the widows pointed out, this was her job, to coordinate
and centralize this type of information and to assess the level of urgency and inform the Chimp, so he could run to Unka Dick and find o out what to do.
I loved her statement that Chimp was 'wandering around the situation room, looking for something to do...'
Tells all. He couldn't remember even having been in there, so you know just how crucial HE is to anything....

20. When Fineman panned her
on The Factor yesterday, I knew she was in big trouble. He's one of Bush's most faithful whores.

Unfortunately for RoveCo, the 9/11 families are going to make the media get to the bottom of this. Without them, the whores would just be reading the daily lies from the WH. But the bushies can't make them go away.

24. Condi's problem is "Low Expections Boy"
When you deal with an incurious person, some of this aloofness rubs off. This does not serve you well if you have to shift gears and deal with people who are curious. For example she was truly puzzeled at the concept that it was her job to coordinate the FBI and CIA.

Plus she truly screwed up by releasing the name of the Aug 6, PDB. This had sort of been known, but had never been verified. How can she claim that there had been no credible warning when the title of the document was "Bin Laden Determined to strike inside the US?"

Clueless or incompetent?

But to answer your question, pundits didn't get where they are today by saying things people don't want to hear, they have their ear to the ground and can smell changes in the national mood.

Plus there is too much scandal and juice that they have been sitting on for too long, whether it be Plame, Medicare, Memogate as well as hundreds of lies and flip flops. All it takes is one more straw, until the camel's back gives out. You don't want to be sitting on the camel when that happens.
