Over Sensitive PCers Or Agent Provocateurs?
First thing, right off the bat. Yes, I'm naturally paranoid, or as I prefer 'hyper aware'. Over the last few days, after a brief hiatus to cram for the CCNA, I've noticed a lot of threads decrying use of language considered offensive by some. Now, I am no stranger to neo victorian PC nonsense, I've put up with it on different occasions ever since college in good ol' Berzerkely. I always found it a back handed, lame technique to attempt control by the powerless and unclever. I find it the height of irony(and I DO so love irony, yum!), that I find little difference between these 'left puritans' and 'bahble' thumping loons who use the same techniques for the same ends.

BTAIM, I believe that maybe, just maybe, that this is a new tactic to sow disruption 'amongst the ranks'. Conservative geeks see "PC" as the universal amongst 'libruhls' and talk about it constantly amongst themselves. The point being that many of these individuals, like myself, have encountered this obnoxious phenomena, and are probably pretty familiar with it. Also add in the 'hollywood' version of PC, which the posts I've encountered seem to follow, to the mix and you can see how any would be lefty can play the PC game.

I've also noticed that other comments, not necessarily of the PC variety, are picking nits and becoming whole issues until themselves. You must admit, if you've bothered with these threads, that you come away wondering what the whole goddamn fuss was about.

Anyways, if I post something that someone tries to use as a red herring wedge, I will either mock you or ignore you.

To be foretold is to be forewarned.

Now I have to get back to negotiations with a certian netherworld being interested in my soul, so I can pass this damn test!

1. I have used that little x ignore square a lot lately.
IT IS NOT WORTH THE ENERGY to do this to ourselves at this point in time.

4. Actually
I'm not interested in the specifics of language, but if it has been considered that this is a ruse for disruption.

5. I have read a good bit about the civil rights movement in the 60's.
Government entities used agent provocatuers to disrupt organizations and demonstrations.

In fact, in Memphis, when Dr. King was there to lead a peaceful march on behalf of the sanitation workers, the march turned violent when a number of young thugs started breaking store windows. Turns out later that thugs had been recruited to do this very thing.

Wouldn't surprise me at all.

6. This whole PCness has become overly ridiculous.
I just can't believe how much it's been going on. It really annoys me when someone posts basic assumptions about the whole damn website. Listen, if you have a freakin' problem, hit the "alert" button. It's not so hard now, is it? :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

8. I also remember my YIPpie mom
dealing with provocateurs. There where two kinds, the ones to get you to do something illegal and the kind to diffuse through 'splitting'. Either can be very effective

9. Nice title there to keep trying to marginalize DUers who may have genuine
concerns about biased language used by some posters on this board.

Try this one: Strangely Biased DUers Or Agent Provocateurs?

16. You know I love DU for the different spectrum of thoughts and ideas that
are contained here under the same basic umbrella. However, I will ALWAYS cry sexism when I see or hear certain terms that I personally find very demeaning and I will ask others to be respectful of me as a female. Just as I will always try to be respectful of others, even those I dieagree with. I do not consider this to be the slightest bit "PC". I think of it as bare, basic, essential liberal respect for other DUers.

18. Common courtesy and civilized behavior
being considered PC and therefore undesirable. What a concept.

Words have meaning. This is what makes communication possible. Use of slurs based on characteristics that are not under your control says a lot about the person using the slurs and what they consider to be desirable characteristics.

Proud to be PC (PC meaning Perfectly Civilized)

23. My favorite little bit of irony about this whole episode is that
one of the more energetic proponents of cracking down on language here that offended their sensitive nature was sporting a "GET BENT" avatar while doing so :eyes:
