The biggies in the RX business will win by hook or by crook..

If the pharms sell for Canadian prices to Americans, they will get "cut off"..

UPDATE 1-Pfizer to restrict drug sales to U.S. from Canada
Wed August 6, 2003 04:53 PM ET
(Updates with details)
NEW YORK, Aug 6 (Reuters) - Pfizer Inc.PFE.N said it would cut off supplies of its products to Canadian pharmacies that sell drugs at Canadian prices to consumers in the United States, where the price of the same medicines is much higher.

The world's biggest drugmaker, following a trend begun by GlaxoSmithKline Plc GSK.L , told pharmacists in a letter dated Aug. 4 that the company will sell all drugs produced by Pfizer and its recently acquired subsidiary, Pharmacia, directly rather than through wholesalers and distributors.

That will allow Pfizer to better track where the drugs are being sold and cut off pharmacies that sell to the United States. Congress is currently debating possible reimportation of drugs from Canada.

"The objective of us having more customers as direct clients is for us to better enforce our terms of sale which are that our products are only to be sold in Canada for Canadian patients and that they are not for export," said Don Sancton, a spokesman for Pfizer Canada Inc.

4. my dream....
.... would be to pass legislation that says:

"Drug manufacturers must charge the same price, adjusted for exchange rate only, for the same drug everywhere in the world.

The only exemption will be for special case humnanitarian efforts, such as AIDS drugs. Such exemptions will be granted on a case by case basis."

5. I knew they would do that,..........
they(Congress) knew it too. They just passed something to say they did something. I mean, if I knew they would do it(the pharmaceutical cos.), stands to reason they would know too doesn't it? Er.....on second thought, they didn't know the yellow-cake document was a forgery so maybe.....they didn't know!
