Brzezinski (cold war veteran adviser) slamming Bushco, re: Iraq.
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 05:50 PM by pinto
Says look at Afghanistan, we have a committed coalition of governments, we have some reliable support from Afghans and we have an ambassador (US) who understands the cultural complexities in the region. None of this, he says, is happening in Iraq.

Yeah, I know. We haven't caught bin Laden in Afghanistan, poppies are up, and Musharraf seems to be wobbling, but Mr Brzezinski's comments are a "window" from a long time insider....

We are losing the central Asian, muslim "stans", as have many before us.

PS. Algeria, an Islamic country, holds elections next Tuesday.

They don't want our help.

(on edit) This came from the Lou Dobb's show.

1. I think he is right now, but he is such a long time insider
that it was his idea to help Afghanistan get rid of the Soviets. And we know what all followed.

2. Yes, but he has spoken out against Iraq Invasion. He's split himself from
the PNAC'ers and Bush every time I've heard him speak. I missed tonight's appearance but think I've seen his others since before Iraq Invasion.

He worked for Carter. He ain't all Repug!

3. It was during the Carter administration that he got the idea to help
the Afghan fighters. I'm not sure if we went over then or waited until Reagan got in, but I know he was the one pushing it. I don't blame him for being so anti-Soviet with his heritage. It just turned out not being a very smart thing in the long run.

He gave a terrific speech last year. I don't remember where it was but Josh Marshall had it on his site. I'm not sure which party he belongs to if any.
