Why isn't Kerry talking about this hypocrisy?
Bush and his minions have been all over Kerry with the "50 cent gasoline tax" talking point for days now. It's on their ads as well. Never mind that fact that he was merely voicing support and it was over a decade ago.

Here's something to chew on. Or gag:

"In October 1986, when Dick Cheney was the lone congressman from energy-rich Wyoming, he introduced legislation to create a new import tax that would have caused the price of oil, and ultimately the price of gasoline paid by drivers, to soar by billions of dollars per year," reports the New York Times.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/04/06/politics/06CHEN.html

" 'Let us rid ourselves of the fiction that low oil prices are somehow good for the United States,' Mr. Cheney, who is now vice president, said shortly after introducing the legislation."

Where is the outrage at this naked hypocrisy?

1. Charlie, keeping up with right wing hypocrisy is a full time job
for an extremely large staff. Be patient, I believe it will all come home to roost. Maybe cheney will be allowed to tend to a garden when he is in prison.

2. Good question
I would like to see more offense, less defense from Mr. Kerry.

9. Where do you think the Cheney info came from, Tom?
Do you think it was the MediaPravda who dug that up?

Do you think that maybe it was the Kerry campaign that fed that little bit of Cheney's history to the media?

12. Good point. I guess I meant I wish he was being more aggressive
Though perhaps his "semi-aggressive" action will be enough.

I don't wish to further delve into our varying definitions of "aggressive".

16. That is sometimes inadvisable
Anything that Kerry does is vulnerable to being misportrayed as being politically motivated and having no substance simply because Kerry says it and he is Bush*'s opponent. If the media reports it as if it were just a fact that their research has uncovered it will be seen as less biased and less political, making it more likely to be believed.

That's why the Bush*ies accuse ALL of their critics as being politically motivated. It reduces their credibility.

17. that's why the bush attack ads aren't that effective
while there are people who fall for those ads. there is also a certain segment of the population which has caught on to the ads and see it as mostly political. especially with them forced to do the whole "i approved" thing. remember when they were just allowed to put a really small picture in the corner or very small type in those ads.people always didn't know where the ads came from then. i think things are a little different now with them having to say who they are and they approved those ads.

this is also why richard clarke is trying so hard to make clear he isn't , wont and will not accept a job on the kerry campaign or administration.

3. Kerry's campaign has this at their dBugger Site
http://blog.johnkerry.com/dbunker/archives/001502.html#001502

I think some of the Kerry counter attack may be held back until Summer/Fall. You don't want to waste all your ammo this early in the campaign.

4. Kerry can not do this by himself ~ Write a letter to the editor
Use Cheney's quote. Call your local Radio station. Write an article for a magazine or print out flyers. We are all in this one together so don't put it all upon Kerry. He is fighting many many other fires that break out every day.

Bush Administration Lies

Dear Editor:

It is truly disturbing to see this Bush administration that cannot tell the truth. They make categorical claims and a few months later state the exact opposite, as if the original claim never existed. They must expect us not to remember. No WMD, no problem. We invaded Iraq because Saddam was such a bad guy. (Nobody disputes he was a bad guy.)

Now they are revving up their smear machine against John Kerry and it’s based on lies. Supposedly John Kerry voted to raise taxes 350 times in a 20 year career. They get to that calculation by counting some votes up to 8 times. Perhaps that explains why their job creation estimates are so far off. A recent analysis of Bush “revenue enhancers” over a similar period would show over 320 such actions.

If they are concerned about John Kerry considering a gas tax increase (one that he didn’t propose or vote for) maybe the public should consider this quote from Dick Cheney from 1986. "Let us rid ourselves of the fiction that low oil prices are somehow good for the United States."

5. no reason to attack it
What a Republican did (or in this case said) 20 years ago is only a "youthful indiscretion". Never mind that "youth" had already had bypass surgery and 2 or is it 3 DUI's. :eyes:

6. It's newly uncovered. Give it time.
Due to the horrible news coming from Iraq it may get covered over for a while. But keep the quote handy from now til election day and repeat it whenever 50 cent gas taxes get mentioned. Point out that the Bush admin guysprofit from high gas prices.

8. Kerry's message is not getting through in the media.(TV)
No matter what Kerry says (about anything), rather than comment on his remarks, the response from the TV talking heads is to immediately say "he's too stern or stiff or patrician"...whatever... and therefore the people don't like him as they do the "likeable" George Bush!.....Their aim is to pound away at how unlikeable he is (in their opinion, not mine) and make him unelectable......disgusting!

13. Your right Kerry is not coming through to the media
but the media attention focused on * is all negative. Right now * is making headlines about how piss poor a job he's done and the few commercials that Kerry and media watch are hammering the point home. As frustrating as it seems the fact that Kerry is laying somewhat low is a good thing. Moderate repukes are sensitive to over kill. * is digging his own grave. Any moderate or swing voter will be convinced by the results of how poor the war is gpoing and the flip flop on * decisions per 9-11. Already a majority of the people think that * is hiding something, Kerry does not have to add fuel to the fire, only sit back and watch it burn, Kerry does not have to make news.

14. he's gotta save some stuff for October...sheeple have short memories
and will have forgotten half of this scandal and obstructionism by the time the elections roll around.
And if we try to enumerate all the egregious errors, lies, deceptions and misstatements at that time, it will overwhelm the public, and they'll just want to eat up cute little pithy Repuke soundbites, as it will save them from having to think.
This misadministration is so shameless, there will be plenty to howl about from now until election day, don't worry; someone from BushCo manages to step in it almost daily.

15. The Bush gas tax commercial is stupid
I think that the gas attack ad by Bush is stupid and silly. Bush is hurting himself with that ad and at the right time, Cheney will be asked to explain why his gas tax is different from Senator Kerry's proposal.
