How do/can/will the RW justify the Killing of civilians in Iraq?
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 12:54 PM by Homer12
I see a big difference in the killing/murder of the americans contractors, whom are getting paid to act as a paramilitary orginization in Iraq and the killing/murder of civilians praying in a mosque.

Anybody want to take a gamble on how Buschco, Rummy, and their Medi-Whores will justify these deaths and many others?

Fact is, is that the more non-civilian combatants we kill in Iraq, the more the moderate Iraqi's whom up to now cooly-welcomed the USA for getting rid of Saddamm are going to turn against the occupation. Kinda like the veit-cong.

Welcome to the Iraqi Gurellia war, If they don't want us there than why GWB are we going to stay?

1. Vietnam
When I was a kid, the Vietnam war was covered extensively on the nightly
Network news. Note, please, that the scandal of the day gets far more
coverage these days than do the TWO wars we are waging now.

The thing I noticed then and now is that a lot, dare I say "most",
Americans just do not care if a bunch of brown or yellow people
get killed. They just don't. They see these things as if they
were a football game, Go USA!

Then as now, compassion is absent.

The way you can tell a conservative from a liberal, in my humble
opinion, is that the liberal is capable of compassion. The conservative
is just interested in STAYING ahead of the game.

5. Actually,
Americans don't care if a bunch of white people are killed, either, if they are the 'enemy'. Or doesn't, say, the fire-bombing of German cities, Sherman's march, the trenches of WW1 mean anything?

a fairly comprehensive list of US military interventions in Latin America. So what is the point? I said that America does not care if it kills enemy whites. A list of 'brown' countries where they intervend does not contradict my statement. Or have I misinterpreted you comment??

On edit: maybe you meant that my little list counted. But I still don't see your point?

19. agree to disagree
I made a point in my first post.
I backed it up with my second.

That's all I am going to do.

If you disagree, then let's just agree to disagree.

15. They don't even care if they are americans
I live in a suburb just north of Detroit. We have had a very, very bloody start to 2004. In the last week, 10 or 11 people have been killed. One of the crimes involved a dad bludgeoning his girlfriend, daughter and three stepchildren. People in the city are sad, the news anchors and reporters cover it with their fake sorrow attitude, but white suburbanites on the whole don't care, since all the victims were black. It gets a lot of local coverage, around the shallow stories and sex scandals, but I don't see much national coverage.

I'm sure the freepers would just say it's all Kwame's fault.

18. I don't know if you can

say that white suburbanites don't care becasue all the victims are black. Would they care if they were white? I mean more than a sympathetic feeling, maybe. What should they do. It is really hard to get concerned for individuals in an extremely common situation like step-dad killing his family. I mean, it happens all the time. But what to do about it? I'm pretty sure that if you started a fund for them in the white suburbs, they would contribute.

I am not trying to brush this off. It is an extremely serious situation and deserves some attention, but what do you suggest?

9. It's not them being killed, that's all that matters
Conservatives and Americans in general are so wrapped up in themselves and their petty little lives that they don't give a shit about anyone. It's the reason why their is ONLY outrage when their own pocketbook is affected.

11. It's easy . . . they're dying for "freedom."
Same as Al Qaeda justifies killing civilians in the name of their religion.

One can rationalize ("rational lies") anything if it's something you really want to do anyway.

12. They're just a bunch of terrorists.
That's what a soldier in Iraq said when interviewed on CNN.

"They're all a bunch of cowards. They're terrorists. They dress like civilians."

Damn terrorists.

17. Meanwhile, the indigenous Christian minority in Iraq. . .
in greater and greater danger.

Where is the "Christian" Coalition's concern for THEM ??

Looks like Lebanon and Syria better start preparing for an influx of refugees.

20. From the mouths of children...
Recently, there was a candlelight vigil here in Denver, where the names of all the people who had died in the war were read aloud. Iraqis included. This quote from a news article will stay with me for a while:

http://www.rockymountainnews.com/drmn/news_columnists/article/0,1299,DRMN_86_2748660,00.html

On Sunday before the vigil, a young boy fishing at the lake asks Greg Cradick why he is placing bags with candles around the lake. To remember the American soldiers and the Iraqi people who died in the war, Cradick says.

"Iraqi," the boy frowned. "Why the Iraqis?"

"They're people, too," Greg says.

"Yeah," the boy retorts. "Mean ones."

I don't hold anything against the boy for holding that belief. He's just a kid. But he got that idea from somewhere. TV news? His parents? A little of everything, I imagine.

To me, what that boy said really exemplifies the American attitude about Iraq. They're the bad guys. Just like on TV, where everyone gets sorted out to be a good guy or a bad guy, the Iraqis are our enemies and they are the bad guys.

And the more American soldiers die over there, the worse this attitude will become. At least, for those lucky people who haven't lost anyone to this war.
