Silverware banned at Bush fundraiser to prevent clinking while he spoke
It was a mouthwatering menu. Not that you'd expect less for $2,000 a plate.

Seered beef tenderloins with golden tomatoes on an herb-encrusted baguette. Grilled garlic chicken with smoked gouda on a honey wheat wrap. Fruits and gourmet olives and crudite. A gourmet luncheon with only one thing missing: something to eat it with.

The explanation was at the bottom of the menus distributed at President Bush's $1.5 million Charlotte fund-raiser Monday.

"At the request of the White House, silverware will not accompany the table settings," it said in discreetly fine print.

No silver. No plastic.

The lack of utensils might have been why many plates went virtually untouched.

The reason: So the tinkle of silver wouldn't disrupt the president's speech.

11. Here's another funny story I came upon
BACK AT BUSCH: A somewhat hostile crowd complained mightily about the problems the presidential motorcade caused with regular fans trying to get into the park. A Cards employee tipped moi that the team was so concerned about Bush being booed that they piped in fake applause when he strode out to the mound. Lamping flatly denied it. ...

Gee -- A Cardinal GM denying something....

The last trustworthy GM we had was Whitey Herzog, and he hired himself as manager and then fired himself as GM....

15. How many more emblematic incidents do we need?
It's getting tedious. The Chimp reveals himself over and over again to be a thin-skinned, belligerent, psychopathic freak, and each time we all go OOOHHH and move on.

This guy is NUTS. And he has the nuclear football.

A few weeks back, he was attending some sort of ceremony before a fundraiser and the staff there was instructed that *'s feet were not allowed to touch the soil. I wish I could find the link, but I think Breslin wrote about it?

And maybe the lack of silverware was precisely so no one COULD "stick a fork in Bush." Literally.

At least the poor were allowed to eat cake.

This defies anything the Democrats could have dreamed up. It is something that should be shouted from the mountaintops.

The Bush Diet. Two thousand dollars and no calories!

26. Typical cheapshit boosh* trick...
You see, they just repackage all the uneaten food and serve it at the NEXT Cult of Boosh (tm) meeting. Once the beef tenderloins start looking a little green (usually after the fourth or fifth fundraiser), they'll cook up a new batch in the BooshTown (tm) corporate kitchens (div. Halliburton). Very cost-effective, y'know, as befitting a CEO of his caliber.

33. To me, it sounds like they had to change the menu
to sandwiches because the big baby didn't want them to have silverware. So they probably did not eat it because the baguettes and wraps were soggy, because it is hard to feed a large group sandwiches and keep them fresh since they have to be made ahead of time.

Usually at events where there is a speaker, they give people time to eat first, then the person speaks. Wonder why they don't do that? Of course, his supporters probably love being treated like dirt.
