O'Reilly's Raising Hell with the generals!!!

Is anyone on west coast watching? (Don't know about the east coast & TV). He actually said, "Rumsfeld has a LOT of explaining to do." And then something else about the fact that mistakes are being made that are getting soldiers killed. O'Reilly also said that he didn't buy the line anymore that there are only a small number of Iraqis involved with the insurgency....that they are obviously not cooperating with us and don't want us there.

Kind of amazing. Every once in a while, I guess he does make sense.

1. He is just telling the truth for a change

I think he may be seeing the writing on the wall.
At least I hope so.

Maybe we should write to him and let him know what we think of his truthful message.

2. Yeah, pretty amazing..

As much as I dislike him and his views most of the time, I think he has more sincerity than some of the others on Faux news. For what it's worth. TOo bad more people didn't see that exchange...OReilly's turning "liberal!"

Attacking Rumsfeld?? Nah, it's more than just wanting to maintain his angry guy appearance... Guess time will tell.

4. He's Having a Meltdown, Plus His Jihad Against Bill MOYERS
You beat me to the thread. But I disagree that he is "making sense". As is usual with him, anything that jeopardizes his graven idol, Shrub, is cause for hysteria. He just promo-ed the poll question on his website (where I won't go), "If Iraq chaos continues, will (Shrub) lose the election." He is HYSTERICAL.

Then he started his jihad on MOYERS months ago, now is saying an upcoming topic will be MOYERS winning a Peabody Award for "left wing propaganda". This from a jerk who is so self-deluded about his own supposed journalist independence:

*******QUOTE*******

O'Reilly says some journalists have turned into political activists (NYDN)

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/178194p-154963c.h...

.... What I'm not wrong about is that more than a few so-called journalists have turned into activists - people who are dedicating themselves to getting a certain party or person elected and are using their positions in the media to do it. ....

.... But let's face it, with the rise of entertainers like Rush Limbaugh and other radio talk-show people who openly root for the Republicans, those on the left feel they are at a disadvantage. ....

So, you as a news consumer should know American journalism is becoming increasingly partisan, and ideologues on both the right and the left have infiltrated the news business at very high levels.

But remember this: Passionate news analysis is one thing, but abusing the public trust is quite something else.

11. He's Trotting Out that Wingnut Liz TROTTA
Edited on Tue Apr-06-04 07:29 PM by UTUSN
I remember her from her pioneer days as a (CBS?) network reporter, the first female reporter in Vietnam. She is now a full fledged wingnut with fundamentalist overtones, yet O'REILLY introduces her as "Faux news contributor".

He hassled the Peabody people about why they honored MOYERS.

TROTTA is saying she "hates" to use this word, but that MOYERS "began as a FLACK for Lyndon JOHNSON. The pomposity....Oh, I never worked WITH him (at CBS). They have ALWAYS been activists - CRONKITE. Bill MOYERS has ALWAYS taken money from people...."??????

14. He's Being Subdued with Andrew GREELEY over St Mel
GREELEY has been critical of Mel's movie. O'REILLY tiptoed around GREELEY. Now GREELEY is saying (re: politics and the Church), "Nobody listens to the bishops anymore. They've lost their credibility."

10. Maybe this signals the turn in FOX News bias?
I have heard that Rupert Murdock's main concern is $$$$$ and that it is possible that he would turn his alliegence from Right to Left the second he thougt doing so would generate more ratings and more $$$$.

Could we be witnessing the test marketing of a new, anti-Bush FOX news slant? I bet Rupert has his focus groups working tonight.

16. You're not being paranoid if someone is really out to get you...
O'Reilly is the perfect example of a media whore....they lean whichever way the wind is blowing, just like Wolf Blitzer and our proud "liberal" media. I know what you mean about O'Reilly, though...I really WANT this guy to really see the light...I think deep down inside he'd be fun to have a jack and coke with...and I do think he's more decent than others of his ilk....

18. I agree...and I don't like him all that much, but here's the thing...

All this left wing / right wing posing is getting more and more distorted as the crisis in Iraq deepens, imo. I wouldn't be surprised if we find ourselves agreeing with people we never thought we would.

Do you know what I mean? I think this kind of crisis maybe pushes people beyond what they are normally comfortable accepting as "truth". I don't know about O'Reilly, he may just be posing.

Here's an example -- I agree more with Bush than Kerry on the issue of "turning over" (whatever that means) Iraq to the Iraqis by June 30th. So, I don't know, I'm definitely liberal but you have to keep somewhat of an open mind and look at things objectively....ah i dunno just rambling now.

25. No, I know what you mean.
I strangely find myself agreeing with Pat Buchanan a LOT lately, but he agrees with Dennis Kucinich from time to time....sooooo....

I agree. It's time to form an alliance of the old left and the old right to capture undecided voters away from Bush. The Republicans will probably still hold at least one chamber of congress, so the Old Guard Republicans may be able to hold their noses and vote for Kerry....

24. from LBN, "MURDOCH Supports (Shrub)...."
Some commentators say that O'REILLY is not a true wingnut, but rather "an old fashioned ethnic populist", but he's been with the Shrubbites 99% of the time. Whether he (and Tweety) throw us a bone once in a long while, they are LOST to us, have done more damage to most of our political side than any ONE utterance on any ONE topic.

Murdoch backs Bush to win (Surprise, surprise

April 7, 2004

<snip>
Mr Murdoch said the American people strongly supported President Bush's efforts in Iraq and the resurging US economy.

"They're with him on that, completely. He's going to walk it (the election) in," Mr Murdoch told Sydney radio 2GB.

"The economy's doing extremely well and there is an international crisis.
<snip>

"And the Australian government stood absolutely firm with them. This country's got no alternative, it must stand with America."

21. Bill is a genuine looney-toon. Right after 911, he wanted to bring our
entire military home-not necessarily a bad idea, IMO-but he wanted to pile them all up on the Mexican and Canadian borders.

I think he may be just a little bit clinically paranoid.

then never follows up. He does this time and again. Then it's off to something earth shattering like Rap videos or how badly the "Hollywood elite" are treating Mel Gibson. He said Bush had some explaining to do about the WMD but that was once and then it was weeks of Mel Gibson. Bleech.
