Is there nothing to be happy about?
I'm relatively new to this board so please forgive me if I'm stepping on toes.

I know there is a lot of bad crap happening to our country, but is there anything to be happy about? All I see on these boards are complaints and whining. Don't get me wrong--I've contributed to it. But I am in many ways grateful for my life here in this country. I have a job, I'm able to pay the bills, even indulge in a few "extras". Nothing is perfect and nothing ever will be no matter who is in the office.

I guess I'm just ranting. Today, I just noticed a lot of complaining. Rightfully so, given the situation in Iraq, but surely the posters to this forum find joy in some things right?

1. Yes, I am full of some joy
my husband left Iraq 2 weeks prior to hell breaking loose. Also, he and the guys in his platoon were standing on desks today shouting to vote Bush out.

2. There are many things to be happy about.
Why not visit the lounge? The meeting room is nice too.

Right now, there are a lot of people concerned about current events - some people have family members in Iraq, for example - but you'll find a number of discussions about happier issues.

Welcome to DU! :hi:

4. Thanks! I'll try those forums.
I haven't had time to visit all the forums yet. Maybe I'm just in the wrong area for good news and discussion!

3. there are fundies here
just fundie-leftist...

just like RW fundies, they're never satisfied.

That said, with Kerry on hiatus, there's nothing big in the D party to get excited about. At least when we had 9 points of interest there was always something interesting going on.

But with the Iraq crap, I agree about the mood here - it is definately sour...

Just like many people, this group has mood swings.

It was very upbeat a couple days ago with the AAR launch...

6. Welcome To Du

I understand your concerns. I have only been with DU for a few months.I find the Latest News and the Discuss Forum just my speed!

When I say that I mean that I am finally able to have people to chat with that are as frustrated as I am about this Administration. Many of my friends like politics but not like DU Posters. They are really special! They are political junkies just like I am...that's why DU is such a good place for me to unwind after a stressful day.

I have never visited the calm forums at DU. At this point in the election cycle I don't want to be calm. I want to stay up to date on the latest NEWS and be able to email my thoughts to the media.

It is a fantastic way for me to make my voice heard during the election season.

Enjoy!

:hi:

9. Depends on who you are I guess

That would probably determine if there is anything to be happy about. I am sure the execs at Halliburton and the oil companies are ecstatic.

Don't you listen to Rush or O'Reilly or Hannity or Annie or Faux? That's all we Democrats/liberals ever do! Whine and complain! If you did, you'd hear that oh, four or five hundred times a day.

Come on! Get with the program!

Signed,
A whining and complaining liberal Democrat
