How do we tell the children about Bush's lies?
How come we're not hearing this crap about Bush? Where did all the freaking children go?

http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=13912

<snip>

The impeachment of Bill Clinton is now a part of our history, and his survival will be as difficult for parents of further generations to explain as it is for parents today. Imagine this conversation:

"Mommy, why was Bill Clinton impeached?"

"Because he did a bad thing honey."

"Then why wasn't he removed from office?"

"Because the elected representatives of the people didn't do the right thing."

"Did they get re-elected, Mommy?"

"Yes, honey."

"Why Mommy?"

"Because the people didn't care."

3. Different kinds of lies
Lying about a blowjob is sexual depravity. Lying about a war in Iraq is greed and powerlust. To a conservative, greed and powerlust are virtues.

"Mommy, why didn't President Bush get impeached like President Clinton?"

"Because he was a hero, honey."

"Why?"

"Because he killed thousands of innocent people, tens of thousands of soldiers, and hundreds of Americans, in a war to take over Iraq's oil and to forcibly bring America's empire into the Middle East."

"...Mommy, if I did that, Mrs. Johnson would give me a time out."

"Mrs. Johnson is a leftist liberal hippie red diaper doper baby commie pinko, honey. Don't listen to anything she says."

"Okay Mommy."

4. Good one KuroKensaki
Yep the hypocrites on the right are overstretching to protect the chimp over these lies. The ends justify the means, kind of defense.

By the way welcome to DU KuroKensaki! :hi:

17. Wow, what a way to start your DU
journey. My only suggestion: don't be sparing in the least with your sarcasm, cynicism, and ridicule: keep pouring it on.

5. This is a crucial question.
I believe that the truth of the BFEE is so horrendous and foundation-shattering it would almost be child abuse to teach it in elementary and secondary school. And there aren't any college textbooks that cover the BFEE to any significant. (There is one textbook I know of, Elite Deviance, that mentions the Bushes.) Our schools teach a santized, glorifying, non-threatening version of history which doesn't at all jibe with the reality we are facing now.

How can we tell the children? I started a thread a few days ago about teaching history to children but it dropped pretty quickly. I've made my teenage son aware of what is happening and it has only made his teen years more difficult and our relationship strained. Kids need security and positive input, so I am not sure what the answer to this is.

11. that's interesting
I bet you're right about sheltering kids from these things. I remember Mr. Rogers saying that's the most important thing, when talking about frightening things such as Sept. 11. To make sure the kids feel safe above all.

The people that were supposedly concerned about the kids regarding Clinton were not concerned with kids at all. They were using the kids for their stupid partisan witchhunt.

6. The bad people took over and their lies are covered up.
Someday, justice will be done. But not today.
I know you started this as a joke, but seriously, I do have a problem explaining injustice to my 5 years old.

8. Did not seem like it was meant as a joke.
It just seemed so pertinent. Why is it harder to explain Clinton's lies to your 5 year old, than it is to explain Bush's lies? Not sure what you mean.

I think it would be hard to explain why 70 million was spent to investigate Clinton, and Bush lies with impunity. And people are dying.

7. And in Bizarro World
If Clinton has been a Republican and was caught lying about a blowjob, the right wing spin would be:

This is certainly no big deal and lying about it was an honest attempt to prevent the story from diverting our attention from more important things like the economy or terrorism.

10. How do we tell our kids about the Gulf of Tonkin?
We don't. History obscures it. No matter what happens, the same patriotically correct, idealized version of history will find its way into the history books.

USA! USA! USA!
