Poll question: Air America....what do you think?
Well, Air America has been on barely a week and so far I think it is great! I am happy to know Portland got an Air America affiliate. Now if a radio station in Seattle would get it's act together than you'll have the NW covered. What do you guys think of Air America?

2. Agreed!
I am the one who started that petition to get Malloy on Air America. A few weeks ago, I sent them an email and a link to the petition, but I have not heard back from them. I think I may start an email drive to get people to flood them with emails and phone calls to get Mike Malloy on! What do you think?

If they are smart enough to hire Malloy they'll having a winning game going for sure. As of now, I find it to be ok, but rather boring at times. I get bored easily.

5. I agree ... but Mike needs to make some changes too .. He can be too
depressing at times. It was either turn him off or pop some pills during some shows I listened to. But, overall Mike is good. I think adding him and a more polished version of Bartcop will help. Bartcop, I believe could help in the Heartland and swing states because of his voice and speaking manner- more working class men can relate to him. All the current line is great, esp. Randi and Al. Let the Laura Flanders types stay on the weekends.

While I am not a subscriber to Bartcop radio(the damn bush economy makes $tight) I love his website. It would be nice if somehow Bartcop would get some airtime. He appeals to people like me, a working class person, as you stated. And he lives in Oklahoma, so he can indeed relate to what we in the heartland are going through, even though I am nowhere near Oklahoma. Overall AirAmerica Radio is wonderful. It's nice to have a voice to fight back.

His radio show gets better and is actually starting to get better than the page. Not only do we need someone who talks like Bart but someone who sounds like Bart.

11. my take so far - Al Franken isn't cutting it
I have been underwhelmed by Al Franken. I like the guy. I bought and really liked his book. But, his radio show is kind of boring and just seems like a repeat of talking points. The show has some humor, but it moves real slowly. He's not a radio host and the more experienced radio woman on with him doesn't make the show anymore interesting. I'm still gonna tune him in a little more, but I've not been impressed so far. Probably go back to Thom Hartmann live, soon.

I've liked Garofalo's show so far, as she offers some views that are not really being heard. It would be good if the pace picked up a little, but that doesn't seem to be Garofalo's style. But, I like her show nonetheless. She may not express herself so well or so forcefully as others but the content of her show is not bad, imo.

I've liked Randi Rhodes for a while.

They need Mike Malloy on after Garofalo's Majority Report. Tehy need Mike on just like he is.

21. I wouldn't agree with that
I never find Mike Malloy boring. Bernie Ward is my goodnight music. I can pick him up on the radio and often listen to him when he comes on at 10:00 p.m. PST.

Usually I wake up during the night and hear the radio and I get up and turn it off.

He's a sleeper to me.

I do like Guy James myself. I support him very much as well.

However, there really isn't any quite like Malloy.

He can be brutally honest. That can be depressing to some I suppose. However, for the most part, he knows how to engage the radio audience. This is a skill that Al Franken needs to hone up IMO.

He just seemed defeatist sometimes and depressed. He would be an asset to Air America and adding Malloy in the evening would be wise.

13. I agree with you but.....
.....there is a problem with that.

Air America's "flagship station" is WLIB in New York but, they have an agreement with the owners of WLIB, who I believe are called "Inner City Broadcasting", to only air 19 hours a day of AA.....from 5:00am to midnight.

WLIB for many, many years was an "African/Carribean American" station and during the overnight hours when Air America is off, they still air their old Pre-AA programming.

I can't see them adding programming late at night if they can't even broadcast it on their flagship station in New York.

Either they have a full time station as their main one or not. Not having this is a mistake by AA.
Maybe things will change in the future....let's hope so.

12. Garafolo
I listened for about an hour today on Realmedia feed and honestly, it needs some work. Garafolo and her co-host are not that dynamic. For the talk radio medium, you've got to have an identifiable and energetic personality to grab listeners. Limbaugh, Hannity, Savage, etc. all know this and have perfected a radio style and program format that works for their particular niche. AA needs to get Jim Hightower onboard for an alternative to the stereotypical New York liberal crowd on the format now.

50. My only complaint is the volume of speech
Because I have to listen online, I can be seen lugging my iBook around. When I am stationary, I can use earbuds, but if I'm noodling in the kitchen or doing laundry the earbuds don't reach.

Then I can hardly hear the voices. The exception is Randi Rhodes who sure does have a set of lungs on her!

I wish they'd all speak up like she does. Then they'd sound like real radio people.

17. AAR is a giant step in the right direction...
For only a couple of days on the air, I believe that they are doing a fantastic job. As with any talk radio show/s, it takes time to grow the audience and hosts together.

Guy James ought to be a part of this effort...quite frankly, Guy has earned his spurs many times over.

Wonder who the personalities from San Francisco will be when the Bay City comes on line?

I particularly enjoy the little comedy blurbs that spice up the dialogs...and the fact that the material being covered is now available to people who still believe in FAUX and EIB.

AirAmerica will be what we want it to be. This is a major effort and we all need to support it.

As in "follow the money..."

Is anyone else slightly curious about some of

Edited on Sun Apr-04-04 10:31 PM by elbayl
While I was listening it to the other day at work over the Internet my repuke brother-in-law sends me an email dissing AAR. Going on about how we liberals are full of anger and hate towards Bush and that we should be thrilled with AAR to vent our anger but mocking the fact that it is only on six stations.

Well, I sent him a couple of AAR Internet links and tell him that I feel like a parallel universe ditto head. Then he tells me later that he listens to it himself.

I think we have the RW a little nervous and that in itself makes AAR a success.
