16. to fill you in...
As long as we're on the subject of CNN -- and speaking of X-Files -- this thing with David Letterman just gets weirder. As we told you Thursday, Late Night host David Letterman is feuding with CNN over a video of a boy yawning behind the president at a recent speech. After airing Dave's original clip of the kid, CNN said the White House called to say Dave doctored the video. (Dave didn't doctor it. It happened. The kid was yawning. Watch the slideshow.) Then CNN backtracked, saying some CNN employee mistakenly thought the White House called, but it didn't. But Dave isn't buying CNN's story, and says he believes the White House did, in fact, call CNN to make false allegations about him. This is from the Late Night newsletter Wahoo Gazette:

"Something strange is going on, and Dave smells a cover up. CNN is now saying the White House never called them. But why would CNN say the White House HAD called if the White House never did? Hmmm. And Dave reveals that our source, a very good source, confirms the White House DID call the CNN. Hoo boy, this is getting interesting. While Condoleezza Rice is testifying in front of the 9/11 Commission, perhaps she can shed some light on this as well. Perhaps the White House truly believes the kid wasn't there due to faulty intelligence."

The whole thing is really kind of funny, even if it makes CNN look pathetic. Krugman, for his part, sees something more sinister at work: A pattern of CNN running willy-nilly with information from anonymous White House officials, and getting themselves into a pickle -- and misinforming however many thousands of Americans watching -- when the information turns out to be flat wrong. Krugman writes: "There's no excuse for disseminating unchecked rumors because they come from 'the White House,' then denying the White House connection when the rumors prove false. That's simply giving the administration a license to smear with impunity."

Edited on Sat Apr-03-04 08:25 AM by Cursive_Knives512
It was an "edited video." I'm so confused about who's telling the truth! Letterman says it was not edited, right? I'm inclined to belive him.

"Crotty said his son was tired during the rally because he was so excited to see the president."

*dies laughing*

11. Letterman edited it,
meaning that he took the funnier segments and strung them together. He did not "add" the kid to the video.

14. Yawning boy 'backs Bush for president'
If he was so "tired" why was he there?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3593209.stm

Yawning boy 'backs Bush for president'

A teenage boy caught on TV yawning behind President Bush as he delivered a speech has come out in favour of the president in the upcoming elections.
Tyler Crotty, 13, repeatedly checked his watch and seemed to fall asleep on his feet as Mr Bush addressed a rally in Orlando, Florida, last month.

A clip of the "yawning boy" appeared on the David Letterman show on Monday and has turned him into a media star. But now the White House is in charge of press access to the boy.Tyler is due to appear in person on CBS's Late Show with David Letterman on Friday night.

"He's a young person who strongly supports the president and is excited about getting a chance to talk about it," White House assistant press secretary Reed Dickens told The Washington Post....

24. The Kid's Obviously a Repuke
Not to stereotype (but I will anyway):

He's fat, white, male, rich, and invites his friends out on a yacht for his birthday party (O.K.--he said "boat" on Letterman, but in Bush Pioneer circles, which his father is, does anyone really own a mere "boat"?).

26. Sigh...he's not photoshopped in, and he was on Letterman last night
His father, Richard Crotty is a major Republican fundraiser and was interviewed by Washington Post earlier this week after the White House apparently ordered CNN to claim that the kid was photoshopped. Do a search and you'll find the whole weird story.

29. Okay, so he wasn't photoshopped in,
but why don't any of the Stepford people glare at him when he's behaving like that? Most of the time if a young kid behaves even slightly out of line, the adults around make it quite clear they disapprove of that behavior. Maybe everyone else is photoshopped in?

Plus, this kid is so phenomenally clueless that he claps when no one else does?

If he and his dad are making the rounds, proudly admitting to his being there and behaving so badly, it must be real, but he's quite the little Republican, isn't he, to be so unaware of everyone else around him.

32. Stepford people
are preprogrammed at the factory to focus all attention and awareness on der Shrubenfuhrer when he is speaking. Nothing is allowed to disrupt their state of the art AI brain-units programmed directions to focus all their attention on the Dear Leader, to the exclusion of all other distractions, when he has the floor. The kid was probably the only real live human being among the lot of them. No doubt Rove has ordered that production of the kid's Stepford replacement be speeded up and put into service ASAP.

30. I like the letter Dumbya wrote the kid.
Dumbya's letter to the yawning kid which Dave had the kid read on the air was a light hearted, "I understand, kid's will be kid's" type letter, no doubt sent at the insistence of Karl Rove to make out Dubya thought this whole issue of making him look like a goofball for the cameras wasn't a big deal. What do you want to bet, Dubya was just seething and wishing he could do like Homer does to Bart, grab the little f*cker by the neck, squeeze tight and start shaking till his tongue hangs out. LOL

34. anyone else think Dave was making a point re: the letter?
He insisted his guest read it out loud -- Bush actually came off sounding rather condescending (saying how the room was warm and he understood how "someone of your age" might doze off).

And then, right after, Dave showed a clip from his series "George W. Bush Feigning Interest", where Bush himself is shown to be less than attentive to someone who's speaking to him directly! As if to point out that Bush is being a bit hypocritical, when he's inclined that way himself!
