LIVE from Huntington, WV - Bush gets a 'welcome' from labor and students
it's right outside my building-about 600 or so union activists, antiwar folks, environmentalists, and other concerned citizens chanting 'bush most go'-easily outnumbering the president's invitation-only crowd. i'm splitting my time between the office and the rally (i have to at least make it look like i'm working) i'm shooting lots of pix and will share them soon

anyway, back to the protest

5. 12:21PM he's done and........
will be coming by my house again. All the Secret Police, State Troopers,FBI guys are still here right in front of my house. Funny how nervous that makes ya.;)

My video camera went dead just as he passed my house! That MUST mean something eh? Got a new battery and will try to get a shot as he leaves.

4. My apologies to the residents of West Virginia,
but your phrase "a real West Virginia welcome" brought to my mind images involving tar and feathers.

9. Why is that?
Just asking. I think the "tar and feathering" bit was a New England custom.

16. Probably that somewhat non-New Englandish scene from
Huckleberry Finn.

6. Way to go West Virginia.
But you still need to reject the * in November - then all will be forgiven.

11. Just saw the CNN coverage...
... looked more like a GOP campaign commercial than anything else. No mention of the protest... just shots of cheering crowds and a big graph of the "Job Boom" accompanying the voiceover.

Gee, CNN, do you think you could get any more friggin' BIASED? How about some impartial news or is your reporter too damn lazy to stick her head out the door?

13. UPDATE
the crowd's growing as students passing by join in-i'm estimating 800-1000. as for cnn not covering it, it shows how biased they are. we're right outside the door and the cops haven't been able to set up a free speech zone.

one minor scuffle when one of our guys went into the bush crowd. no injuries, though.

great signs-my personal fav being the simpsons comic guy w/ 'worst president ever'

headed back over there now

14. update again
crowd kept growing until the thind end, then there was a screaming matc h between both sideso f the street. we outnumbered bush's exiting crowd at least 2-1

then after the labor guys left, all the tv crews descended on the dwindling number of punk rock kids to get out-of-context interviews that they'll use to discredit us.

and that guy from the rw website that does the out of context interviews and compiles them for dvd and sells them on hannity showed up. we tried to discourage people from talking to him, but we were too late to stop a few from getting fooled
