CBS News: New questions about the Bush/Cheney 9/11 "Tag Team"
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 06:43 PM by Cush
People are starting to question why they are bothing appearing at the same time, when the first rule of investigations is "Question the witnesses separately"

Also mentioned that some are wondering just how much the American Public will actually get to see. Mentioned the heavy editing in the first inquiry

2. I thought that blank page thing was a stroke of genius.
I'm glad someone is finally reporting all this. All three networks had about 5 solid minutes of bad stuff for Bush*. Complain all you want about cable news. Nobody watches that. People watch the evening news and this is what they see. It's not looking good for Dubya.

14. Did you see it?
The reporter was standing in front of the WH explaining how the administration is going to censor the commission report. He compared it to the Congressional report and said that despite loud complaints from Congress, the administration "heavily redacted" the document; at which point he opened up a copy of the congressional report to show a blank page.

It was pretty hard hitting. I think the nightly news is really doing Bush* some harm. Yeah, cable "news" is a piece of crap, but nobody watches that except junkies like us.

28. 'Spitting Image' would have put your idea on the air, quite literally!
Do you remember the Reagan-era British political humour puppet show, 'Spitting Image'?' Ronald Raygun' was portrayed as a doddering, drooling old fool propped up by Vice President GEORGE HW BUSH.

Things seem to have come full circle now, with Bush Junior playing the Raygun role!

There's a rumor that 'Spitting Image' is going to be reborn on British TV soon. You should turn your idea into a storyboard for them!

7. I was going to start a CBS News thread, but Instead.....
I will add to yours! I have to admit that I have not watched CBS News in a while. OMG! Tonight CBS is actually shows real news. Not the crap that is shoved down our throats on cable (CNN, Faux, MSRNC). Instead of being pissed at the talking Bushbots, I was actually happy to see depressing news about the war on Terra and the economy. My God, folks in Houston lining up to go to Eye-Rak for a Halliburton job. People dying while working those jobs. Talk about outsourcing! For once, I am proud to say that I am watching the news!

15. That's because he's from Texas too.
You remember when Rather was attacked for a conflict of interest because he attended Democratic Party fundraisers? Yeah, that's right, he's a liberal. CBS Nightly News isn't as bad as the other stuff.

17. New questions?
My how quaint. What is the new question? Talk about breaking precident. Since when have witnesses EVER been allowed to tag team? Odd don't you think that precident is so unimportant when following it (a real precident...not a made up one) might actually contribute something of value to a rather unvaluable proceeding.

Here's another "new question" why the hell is it that the chair and vice chair of the Kangaroo Commision are recording no transcripts of the testimony of those who speak to them in private? Might it be that it will protect them from future investigations into their complicity in a cover-up? Gee it's mighty easy to throw out "I don't recollects" when their ain't no transcripts, ain't it? What a fatuous load of shit. Commission my ass....I'd be embarrased to sit on such a pile of crap if I were a Democrat. If Kerry and his compatriots had any nutz they'd wait for the next television airing of the commission....state that they refuse to be complicit with or party to such a sham, and get up and walk out. Now that would be a statement. Reporting on such an action might even over shadow Micheal Jackson and Scott Pederson for a day or two.

19. bush*'s lips need a chaperone
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_03_28.php#002784

---snip---

Only three scenarios or explanations make sense to me.

The first -- and most generous -- explanation is that this is simply another way to further dilute the Commission's ability to ask questions.

If, say, the meeting lasts three hours, that's three hours to ask questions of both of them rather than three hours to ask questions of each -- as might be the case in separate meetings.

That wouldn't be any great coup for the White House. But it would be one more impediment to throw in front of the Commission's work, which would probably be a source of some joy for the White House.

From here the possible explanations go down hill -- in every respect -- pretty quickly.

Explanation number two would be that this is a fairly elementary -- and, one imagines, pretty effective -- way to keep the two of them from giving contradictory answers to the Commission's questions. It helps them keep their stories straight.

(It's a basic part of any criminal investigation -- which, of course, this isn't -- to interview everyone separately, precisely so that people can't jigger their stories into consistency on the fly.)

The third explanation is that the White House does not trust the president to be alone with the Commission members for any great length of time without getting himself into trouble, either by contradicting what his staff says, or getting some key point wrong, or letting some key fact slip. And Cheney's there to make sure nothing goes wrong.

20. I think it's another blunder by bush* mis-adminstration
on 9-11 -- bush* was flying around the country, dodging supposed terra-jets, Cheney was running things from D.C.

when that little scenario came to light -- it made people wonder which person was really in charge, suddenly cheney disappeared into an undisclosed spiderhole and bush* was dragged out and made to play leader

his current campaign theme is based on "leadership" -- so how much of a leader will he appear to be if he needs Cheney to sit by his side while being questioned? Will this give rise, once more, to the image that bush* is no more than a sock puppet with cheney's arm up bush*'s butt and moving his lips?

21. Here's the deal
Around the White House, they've got everything wired right; in more open settings, they can rely on line of sight. Either way, Rove (or whoever is on mike into the Fierce Warrior Chieftain's ear) can be assured that the transmissions will get through so the Simp appears to talk.

But they can't be sure they can use the earpiece in a closed meeting with the Commission.

For that one, they'll have Jr. wired with the shock collar. If the lil' guy starts to stray, Cheney pushes a button, jolts the jerk, and we're all back on track.

25. Why agree to any of their stipulations?
If these war mongering a**holes don't want to testify under oath and openly as many times as the commission wants them to testify then so be it. Put them down a unwilling to cooperate and let them answer to the people.

27. I know ...
* is an idiot and he can't speak without having Bunker Boy there to protect him ...

But looking at it from a completely objective point of view ... isn't it absolutely pathetic that the so-called "Commander in Chief" can't talk to a commission on his own? That's humiliating! How embarrassing for the country that our "fearless leader" can't speak alone! :puke:

Honestly, this is the funniest damn thing I've ever heard, this case of the chaperoned President. We should keep pushing this -- even the hardcore GOP has got to start wondering whether their lord and savior Georgie isn't totally incompetent.
