For those in the Air America cities...
How much advertising/media attention has the new station gotten in your area?

I think the most important thing we could do (election-wise) is bring independents/swing voters to the station. Obviously die-hard liberals like us at DU know about Air America, but it's like preaching to the choir. I really hope more of America listens than just the die-hards. I know many people (my mother for instance :eyes: ) who is a not a die hard republican but listens to conservative talk radio for the news and entertainment. She has said that when AA premieres in Boston, she'll listen to that too to balance it out.

So, I'm wondering how much attention or advertising has gone on in the cities where AA is premiering to bring listeners to the table.

Any segments on local news? Any newspaper advertisements? etc.
I really want this to be successful!

5. They just got the station in Portland two days ago.

I saw a couple of little blubs on this in The Oregonian--I'm going to steal from Larson and start calling that rag the Daily Dead Fish Wrap---but nothing to write home about.

7. There was a huge article in NYT Magazine
On Franken and the network about two weeks ago. The most thorough I've seen so far.

8. L.A. Times re Air America
The L.A. Times printed two op-ed pieces today, one by Franken, and a Republican response warning that Air America is poorly funded, poorly planned, etc. That is all.

L.A. already has one alternative radio station: KPFK. It is very successful, but too out of balance on issues like the Middle East and not focused enough on getting Bush out of office to get my 100% support. I can't wait to start listening to Air America. I've never put a bumper sticker on my car, but if I like the station, I will put an Air America sticker on.

Are they going to have merchandise?
It's damn near impossible to log in to their site right now so I can't check it out.

9. None in Minneapolis, but it was a last minute deal to get O'Franken on
AM 1330. What a coup, though. This is the only all-news station in the area (as far as I know), so all of the news junkies got a surprise dose of Al Franken!

12. Some attention
Unfortunately a lot of it is about WLIB getting canceled and how it's the only Carribean station in NYC. I hope WLIB has good replacement. I started listening to WLIB two weeks ago, and I got hooked on the station just for the music.

13. It's the only US Carribean station I had ever heard of
Edited on Wed Mar-31-04 03:45 PM by mouse7
If an "All bag-pipes, all the time" station switched format to Air America, the right wing would fill a plane in Scotland and fly them over here to be in front of reporters to visibly whine.
