Emotional Elder Bush Attacks Son's Critics
Tue Mar 30, 2004 06:20 PM ET

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Reuters) - An emotional former President George H.W. Bush on Tuesday defended his son's Iraq war and lashed out at White House critics.
It is "deeply offensive and contemptible" to hear "elites and intellectuals on the campaign trail" dismiss progress in Iraq since last year's overthrow of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, the elder Bush said in a speech to the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association annual convention.

"There is something ignorant in the way they dismiss the overthrow of a brutal dictator and the sowing of the seeds of basic human freedom in that troubled part of the world," he said.

The former president appeared to fight back tears as he complained about media coverage of the younger Bush that he called "something short of fair and balanced."

ON EDIT:
It's been awhile since I've read this story from the Columbia Journalism Review, but I seem to recall that Poppy Bush was a major supporter of the evil dictator Saddam back when.

PS -- The arrogance (or is the better word hubris?) of these dipshits knows no bounds.

8. Boo friggin' hoo
Poppie must live in a dream world as the press essentially has left Bush alone. Bush (junior) can do no wrong in the eyes of the "elite" media. Whether it's the leak of Valarie Plame's name to Robert Novak, to the bad intelligence that led us to war in Iraq, the media basically has given Bush a pass. Bill Clinton, on the other hand, was scrutinized intently by the media almost from day one.

14. read my lips, he would love to see the media never ever
report any negative news on his son,

I am myself surprised that they do , imagine media never report on Iraq quagmire, nothing on Clarke book, nothing on palm nothing even on job loss and so on, Pravda or Brejnev TV like, what would be the situation ? so even if the media are government mouthpiece , unwillingly contribute somehow to open some not very tied yes,

11. Sowing the seeds of basic human freedom?
Are you shittin' me?

sowing of the seeds of basic human freedom in that troubled part of the world,"

So, invading a country, slaughtering thousands of its citizens, installing an unelected body of US sycophants to draft a constitution, and planning to establish permanent US military bases there is "sowing the seeds of basic human freedom?"

Poppy, thanks for reminding me why the voters threw you out in '92: cause you're a fucking moron! :grr:

And it looks like the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

12. How old is Bush?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-04 07:42 PM by Marianne
and his mommy and daddy still have to come out to fight his battles?

They cannot bail him out on this one. He is just too stupid and
they cannot admit that they bred such a stupid son. Imagine a president not having the class and the dignity to go before a commission investigation the worst attack on American ever, and it happened on his watch, going to testify to a commission, with his vice president, Cheney, holding his hand?

Imagine how he must be scared to death to face the questions alone? The big cowboy, the big bully, the big "bring em on" bloviator is scared to go before a commission, a bipartisan commission without Cheney at his side.

now he knows his intellectual limitations when in order to ever go before a commission, he needs someone, as has been his lazy habit all of his life, to bail him out--AGAIN He should start taking to the drink again because he has faced his total failures and incomptency, his dependancy on others smarter than he, his inability to speak comprehensively and the embarrassing situation where his dumbassed, dullard of a wife has to fend for him.

I think he will start taking to the drink again.

13. Not sowing the seeds of basic freedom when we lock Iraqi newspapers
Tell Poppy he needs some Metamucil

If shrub has such tender feelings, he should hang up his spurs and head toward the bunk house. Too bad the Bush family can only feel their own pain and are incapable of any empathy for what others are going through.

Poppy: A BIG dose of Metamucil
