I just got a letter from Jesus! It's true. He signed it!
Well, I didn't get it, but someone I know did. And Jesus's signature is on the letter! I showed the letter to God and he got mad at first, and then told me that he doesn't usually take sides in elections, but this year he's voting Democratic.

But this is the interesting point: Handwritten outside the envelope are the words, "In God We Trust" which makes that cross over to the political.

Well, this is the gist of the letter:

Dear Friend:

How are you? I just had to send you a letter to let you know how much I care about you. I saw you yesterday while you were talking with your friends. I waited all day hoping you would want to talk with me too. I gave you a beautiful sunset to close your day. I waited. You never came. It hurt me, but I still love you because I am your friend.

I know there is so much you do not understand right now. Be certain of this, God is still on His Throne. God is still in control. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge him in all that you do and he will direct your path.

If only you would listen! I love you! <Who knew Jesus was a stalker?> I try to tell you in the beautiful blue skies, the stars that shine in the night... I give the birds beautiful love songs to sing to you, perfume the air with nature scents. I whisper, "I love you" through the leaves on the trees, breathe it on the colors on the flowers. My love is displayed in the rainbow at the end of the storm. "I love you" echoes in the laughter of children, completely trusting and full of hope for the new day and the excitement that my Live brigs. My love is faithful. Always full of hope always fulfilling the heart with little surprises along the way. Never forgetting you and never leaving you alone. My love extends the boundaries.... blah, blah, blah... for another 100 words or so and then:

Faithfully yours, I love you. Jesus.

It came with a Bible and four quotations out of the Bible. The return address is: P.O. Box 593238 Orlando, FL 32859-3238.

We need to accept that Republicans are reaching out politically through religion. It's not a new concept. Karl Marx described religion as the opiate of the people. People who do want an attachment to God are snared in by middle men who abuse their love of God. These people stop thinking when others tell them what Jesus and God want them to do -- and they listen to these middle men, because their faith is weak.

For the record, I am a Christian who talks to God and Jesus on a daily basis, but I know that what the Republicans are doing is blasphemy. It's one thing to quote scripture, it's another thing to co-opt religion to enslave the minds of people.

The right-wing have been using this tactic for decades, but now, it's getting worse and I think that Kerry needs to drive the point home that the Bible is for everyone and that the way conservatives are using it is selective and self-serving. There's another side (more than one actually) and the Democrats have a right to express their interpretations of scripture, so we can get a full picture of what's really in there.

1. Sell it on ebay...............
you could probably get top buck for a signed letter from JC.
This wasn't sent by some GOP organization, was it? I imagine it's just one of the many fundie groups we have in central Florida. There's a war going on down here for supremacy in the fundamentalist Christian market. It's resulted in murder, bribery and a host of other crimes.......all in the name of the Lord.
There isn't a doubt in my mind that if there is a God and Jesus was his progeny, they'd be Democrats.

3. I have heard that there is a strong religious group in Orlando that is
very political. And I believe Jeb is tapped into them.

Whatever, religious groups must have quite a lot of money to burn because the amount of solicitations for everyone has risen this election year. Can you imagine how many hungry people they could feed if they diverted their attention to true Christian acts?

2. You knew it wasn't Jesus right off when he starts the letter with...
"Dear Friend:" Shouldn't that be "dear son" or "dear daughter?" After all Jesus would know exactly who he was writing to and Jesus wouldn't generalize.

4. Well, there were other signs. The signature is very anal and effeminate.
Looks like he signed it above a ruler to keep his line straight.

8. God's in control,
so why is Jesus necessary? "...religion to enslave the minds of people." perhaps.

9. I wonder if Jesus needs a PO box for the same reason I did
when I was a kid: it was the only way to get my porn-by-mail without the parents catching on. Rented under the name "Frank Castle", for all you comics fans out there.

On a semi-related note: there's a billboard near my house that says "Looking for Jesus? 900 Cooper Rd." I think it's nice that Jesus has finally settled down.

10. But does he pay his taxes or declare himself a not for profit
organization? What is the right thing for him to do? What a dilemma.
