Just caught CNN's political analyst editorializing--and spinning--BIGTIME
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 11:25 PM by SeveneightyWhoa
"Voters are calling Kerry too liberal".

Thats basically how 'political analyst' Bill Schneider finished a segment during which he referenced SEVERAL polls about how Democrats and Republicans were split on different issues.

This guy loves analyzing polls, its what he always does. Usually, he gives off an aura of impartiality, and I'm often surprised at how 'unbiased' he appears even while being a fellow at the American Enterprise Institute.

So, this 'impartial' political analyst, the best CNN can offer, concludes a segment about public opinion completely based on poll data, by doing what? Totally forgetting that he's a poll analyst, totally ignoring that the whole segment was about polls, and telling CNN's audience that Americans have come to the conclusion that Kerry is "too liberal". That's that.

Yup, thats what he said. Americans feel that way, its official, becaus political analyst Bill Schneider said it. There must be some facts behind it, because he's a pollster and he's got the numbers, right?

Funny, he didn't reference any poll, and thats just the way he finished off the segment. Blah blah blah, polls say this and that, and Americans think Kerry is "too liberal". Nice little attempt at furthering that ol' Republican meme about being "too liberal", huh? Well if the 'senior political analyst', that smug Bill Schneider fellow said it, it must be true! Kerry IS too liberal!

Amazingly, CNN has never declared this guy's political affiliation or the fact that he works for the AEI (totally pro-Bush, the embodiment of everything neo-conservative). Somebody post CNN contact emails--we must use the method freepers use so well, lets get this guy fired for the good of American democracy and journalistic integrity.

Liars, spinners, and pathetic Bush-pushing frauds like Bill Schneider are exactly what is currently destroying the system Americans once held dear.

3. "Liberal" will be no longer a BAD name.
After Howard Dean, and the fact that liberals have a much better record on the economy, jobs and deficit - 'bring it on.'

Can't wait for Air Americar liberal radio on the 31st. This will put these red-ink rethugs in place.

7. That's what that PNAC fuck does.
He single-handedly took down Dean reporting his made-up bullshit as news. With Dean it was "voters have doubts about Dean's electability," repeated about 100 times.

10. Yeah, I was wondering..
..why he didn't also mention "a lot of American voters have come to the conclusion that Bush is a disgusting, corrupt liar who is destroying America".

Hell, it would've at least made that "too liberal" crap somewhat less obvious.

The amazing thing is that Schneider was allowed to get away with that. And even sadder, only diehard political buffs like us have any idea that this guy isn't an unbiased outside observer and is in actuality a staunch rightwing prick who would never hesitate to spout enormous lies if it meant keeping Bush in control of the White House. Nobody else who watches CNN has a clue about Schneider's motivations.

"OMG, that smug, creepy political analyst bastard on CNN said that my fellow Americans agree that Kerry is too liberal--well hell, Bush is getting my vote!"

We need to start an email campaign, at the least, RIGHT NOW.
Get sites like FAIR to get into the game.

This man has got to go. He's a cancer to objectivism, a festering sore to every democratic principle that Americans hold dear.

15. it wouldn't be so bad
if the word liberal wasn't considered such a "dirty word" by the sheeple. to me, there is nothing wrong at all with being liberal (even though I tend to be moderate on some issues and liberal on others) but for the good of the party Kerry must be branded differently. if I hear my mother in law say "tax and spend liberal" like she is talking about the devil himself one more time I'll scream. i beleive the sheeple feel the same unfortunately.

I just want a DISCLAIMER...

"....and now, here's a word from Bill Schneider,Ultra-conservative rightwing thinktank member of AEI, and contributor to various rightwing conservative publications and foundations..."..

At least let the casual viewer understand where he's coming from.. That's the way the repubes have "captured" a large audience.. They (some of them) appear to be ...grandfatherly,....cute innocent girlie......typical "mom",.... nebbish little innocuous guy..or clean-cut suit wearing Dad next door types..

Anyone who has ever seen the sci-fi series "V", knows what I mean... So far we have never seen the reptile side on tv..(we do get glimpses every now and then:evilgrin:..)

That's what burns me the most.. There is always a rightwing person invited on to "critique" the Dems, yet whenever a Dem IS asked to be on, there is always a "minder" sitting across from them to make sure they cannot finish a complete sentence..:grr:

16. CNN has a "political director" named Tom Hannon --
He's apparently been at CNN for some time, but I know nothing about his background. You don't hear a lot about him. I've often wondered what's up with the guy -- it must be Hannon who employs Schneider (who, I assume, also picks up a paycheck from AEI) as CNN's "senior political analyst," and who assigns Candy Crowley to do hit-job coverage of Democrats, and Judy Woodruff to anchor "Inside Politics," staring in wide-eyed disbelief at anyone who's the least bit critical of the hallowed George Bush. Anybody know anything about Hannon, or how to contact him?

21. Perhaps we should define a liberal.
Main Entry: 1lib·er·al
Pronunciation: 'li-b(&-)r&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Middle French, from Latin liberalis suitable for a freeman, generous, from liber free; perhaps akin to Old English lEodan to grow, Greek eleutheros free
1 a : of, relating to, or based on the liberal arts <liberal education> b archaic : of or befitting a man of free birth
2 a : marked by generosity : OPENHANDED <a liberal giver> b : given or provided in a generous and openhanded way <a liberal meal> c : AMPLE, FULL
3 obsolete : lacking moral restraint : LICENTIOUS
4 : not literal or strict : LOOSE <a liberal translation>
5 : BROAD-MINDED; especially : not bound by authoritarianism, orthodoxy, or traditional forms
6 a : of, favoring, or based upon the principles of liberalism b capitalized : of or constituting a political party advocating or associated with the principles of political liberalism; especially : of or constituting a political party in the United Kingdom associated with ideals of individual especially economic freedom, greater individual participation in government, and constitutional, political, and administrative reforms designed to secure these objectives

So if it means to be a "free man", than, yes, I am guilty of being a liberal. And I really have no interest in being what must be the conceptual opposite-a mindless syncophant/apologist for the criminals who hide behind a "conservative" label.

22. I dunno
I'm not comfortable for firing people for their political affiliations, but what I *do* think is that CNN should clearly identify Schneider as a conservative analyst (just like MSRNC should clearly identify Luntz as a Republican pollster).

It's the intellectual dishonesty - deliberate, I'm sure - that we should be fighting. It's one thing to be a Republican, but when they belong to think tanks or work for Gingrich then it's an entirely different animal. There has to be some level of public disclosure.
