F/A 18 fighter of the VF-A203 squadron in Atlanta crashes in Rhea Co.
www.wrcbtv.com

Approximately 2 hours ago this jet crashed between Spring City, and Dayton, TN. The crash site is approx. 5 miles from Rhea County High School. The pilot suffered a broken ankle but is said to be okay.

The jet was returning from a weekend NASCAR event in Knoxville.

Why is a military jet at a NASCAR event?

2. The short article states that the pilot suffered a broken ankle but is
otherwise okay.

3. Military jets often do flyovers at races, and other sporting events.

This particular squadron is a Reserve outfit. It's all part of the recruitment effort.

5. Thanks. I didn't know that and was curious.
I don't suppose this helped with the recruitment effort.

6. hm...we just had a crash at RDU in Raleigh of a Fighter jet this weekend.
The pilot ejected but left the plane taxing and it just missed the main terminal by a few hundred feet. If it had crashed into the terminal it would have been very bad news.

This seems odd. But, then everything is "odd" these days.

8. I think that we've gotten used to the increase in training flights and the
sonic booms over the past couple of years. I was curious about the NASCAR event.

7. Wow, no comment on the location of the crash?
This is the county in TN that recently tried to prohibit homosexuality.

Comments?

9. yes, isn't rhea county
the infamous that recently tried to enact a ban on homos living in their county? no doubt falwell, et al, will be quite silent on this, however, if it had happened near san francisco, they'd be carrying on night and day!
