Paul Thompson, an American hero!
I just had to say that I am so thankful that Paul posts on DU, and even more thankful that he has put together the cooperativeresearch.com site.

Last weekend the 9-11 Families committee cited his work and gave the url.

In the credits for the new book, House of Bush, House of Saud, the author again credits Paul's work, and telling all his readers to check it out for information on 9-11.

The site itself does not get mentioned very much in the book because Unger references the original articles which Paul has documented and kept available via his site.

I remember, long ago, coming across his site via a link on DU. I was and remain amazed at the breadth and depth of his work.

I also appreciate the way in which the work is presented (beyond the excellent links), because Paul does not claim to know all the answers.

Instead, he presents link after link to mainstream news sources that could have easily been lost in all the spin, with chronological and also subject outlines.

Thank you, Paul. What you've done is truly amazing.

2. Absolutely!
He is the source. I don't think we would have these hearing if not for his site. Seriously. I think the 9/11 widows used that site in their research, and that's what motivated them to demand hearings.

4. Paul's work is also cited in this new book:

And last year, in The Toronto Star, well-known former columnist Michelle Landsberg (and wife of Stephen Lewis, former UN ambassador) came out as a 9/11 skeptic, and pointed readers towards cooperativeresearch.com.

It is THE source.

11. Odd. I got mine from Amazon
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 12:07 AM by Minstrel Boy
a couple of weeks ago. I'd pre-ordered, maybe that had something to do with it. (What, though, I don't know.)

Griffin's book is a very readable introduction to the general audience, which was his intent. And to his credit, he points his readers to Paul's site and Ahmed's The War on Freedom, which is a better book than his own.

I was disapointed, though, that he gives too much attention to the no-plane-hit-the-Pentagon theory. Also, too much space devoted to controlled demolition.

Myself, I'm convinced it was Flight 77 (though I seriously doubt it was flown by the incompetent Hani Hanjour), and I remain agnostic on demolition. To me, they're distractions, especially in the context of a general introduction. I'm not opposed to theorizing on and researching either, but I cringed to see Griffin giving them so much attention, while neglecting other, more accessible evidence which support complicity. I'm afraid that Griffin's getting hung up on the missile theory is bound to discredit, for some readers, every worthwhile point he raises.

17. He shouldn't be embarrassed...
actually, the first time I saw him post on this forum, I told him he was the tits, so I think I'm being really proper and everything now... :)

Does he had a cd of his site available now? That would be really, really great to have. A book on paper is also a good idea, but the hyperlinks are so useful.

21. Thanks for all the thanks!
I just bought "House of Bush, House of Saud" yesterday. I haven't had a chance to read it yet. But I just checked the acknowledgments, and sure enough he gives the website a nice plug. :) Eric Alterman also gave the site a nice plug in his new book, apparently.

I just got back a couple hours ago from the 9/11 skeptic conference held in SF this weekend. I gotta say I was really impressed. A couple of the speakers were duds, and I didn't agree with everything said, but overall I thought it was really well put together with very little overlap from speaker to speaker.

I met a couple of DUers there but was dissappointed more didn't show. Maybe at the next event, hopefully.

A major overhaul of the website is just about done. In addition to a new update, we're going to have a whole new look, and a switch over to a database format. The latter doesn't change anything outwardly, but allows a lot more functionality with searches and the like. Look for it in the next couple of days (knock on wood).

One last thing I want to say. I don't think I'm different from anyone else at DU in any meaningful way. It's not like I have a bunch of degress or training that makes me an expert, and I'm not an expert. I'm just a guy reading the news and summarizing and organizing it. What that tells me is that anybody here can make a difference. Actually, there are lots of DUers making a difference, for instance that person a couple weeks back who found an important press conference text relating to the Plame affair and got the mainstream media to report on it. Anybody here can do that. And the fact that Rush Limbaugh has been ragging on DU shows what an impact this site as a whole is making - he wouldn't be attacking it if it wasn't important.

The more we work together, the greater the impact we can have. If anyone wants to know "what can I do to help," there's a zillion things my website could use help with, and I'm sure that's true for lots of other web researchers out there. If the mainstream media isn't going to do a proper job in getting the news out, we'll just have to do it ourselves on the web and with protests and the like in the streets.
