My prediction - Condi will testify under oath
Edited on Sun Mar-28-04 08:41 PM by eleny
And they'll announce it by the end of this week. The 60 Minutes appearance is a test baloon.

Given the hammering she'll take on Air America, that will pick up the ball and run, there will be no letting up.

1. but I think she'll still lie under oath and that no one will try to bring
up perjury charges against her.

3. She has to lie
But it's a victory for us if they knuckle under because we made them do it.

4. Oooh, I wonder...
...how she'll try to lie under oath if that happens! Her whole 60 Minutes appearance (which was only a total of 15 minutes?) amounted to nothing more than evasions, evasions and evasions. At least Ed Bradley repeated the apology issue again and again.

By the way, I think you're right. With statements from Perle and a few others saying she should testify, and the commission repeating their request, sounds like the WH has to give in. Just looking terrible for them with Condi yapping all over the place and not before the official body created specifically to look into those issues.

6. Hubris may win out in the end...
They may be so arrogant as to believe she could pull it off.

I don't see how she could possibly go under oath without:

1) Perjuring herself.

2) Invoking or excercising her 5th ammendment right against self-incrimination.

I just don't see it.

13. She's saved her credibility
the onus belongs to Bu$h now, he'll never allow it because I'm sure she'd tell the truth. So it's a win win for her politically, she tells the public, I'd love to, Bu$h won't allow it, political suicide for him. I just hope she doesn't meet an unfortunate accident like so many of Bu$h's "close" friends. I think the fact that she would love to testify and just can't says it all. For an administration that got to the white house to restore credibility and integrity has sure risked all of that for the preservation of secrecy. She will never testify, it would be certain doom for Bu$h. He'll take his slime approval ratings and risk a huge future distraction...I'm putting all my money on the fact that he brings the troops home by next July and gives them a big fat raise..if you can't win honestly, bribe them. Future headlines:

Bush promises troops home by July
Bush retracts Patriot Act
Bush strengthens funding for Home Land Security
Bush Federalizes Airport Security
Bush Request UN to help with Iraq
Osma Bin Laden Remains Found in Cave
Yadda Yadda Yadda, Condi carrying Bush's Love Child...LOL...that ones from FOX

7. She'll either go under oath or in public...
not both. It will be presented as a compromise. (Of course, my batting average has been pretty sucky the past couple of days)

11. i know i'm out on a limb
but what the heck. after perle and that repub congressman saying on cnn that it was stupid and a mistake not to have her tesitfy, i figured it's going to happen. and it has to be under oath or it means nothing and they're back to square one. we'll see. i feel confident having lived through watergate.

12. I agree...
nobody forgot their talking points. Maybe she'll do both and the press/public will be so grateful that she showed up, no one will pay much attention to the substance of what she says.

15. Here's A Novel Possibility For You
How about she testifys both under oath and in public, but not at the same time. Say she agrees to meet with the comission in private but under oath, and then also agrees to appear before them in public, but not under oath. In that case were I on the comission I would absolutly insist that the do the private under oath part first. That way they could question here in public with knowledge of what the true answer would be. In either case she would still be free to lie in public, but what could or would the comission do about it? Would they 'out' her public lie? Interesting question. Of couse it would be leaked, but would an official comment be made.

17. the commission chairman said it needs to be
in public and under path. so he's made his position pretty clear. if he backs off, i think the commission would lose even more credibility. since they dwelled on clarke's book instead of other massive commission reports by commission staff, i heard the 9/11 families were disappointed by this.
