Ed Bradley could have NAILED her on the 'apology'
her prepared statement at the end of the interview was not even close to an 'apology'. it was a statement of sympathy. nothing more.

Ed should have pointed out that Clarke's statement clearly included statments of sympathy and responsibility which were embraced by the 9/11 families present. Condi's statement was a carefully phrased dodge which expressed ONLY sympathy.

as it always is with the bushies, they take no responsibility for anything remotely negative.

Ed, you blew it!

somewhere in the attic of the Executive Office Building hangs "The Portrait of Condi Rice"....

1. Exactly. He kept pressing her on what she
THOUGHT about Clarke's apology. The follow-up question should have been--do you feel any responsibility for 9/11?

4. she didn't reply about it

instead, she gave a statement of "of course we're sorry about the losses that terrible day....." (not a direct quote but close enough to illustrate the dodge)

but, she did not APOLOGIZE and she did not react to Clarke's unambiguous APOLOGY

6. Condi's response
"I don't think there's anyone who is not sorry for the terrible loss that these families endured" blah, blah, blah, but we must focus on who's responsible.

3. stiLL
it Looked horribLe for condi that she didn't apoLogize right then and there. at best, it showed that she was 'handLed' and not aLLowed to go off the cuff, since they didn't have an apoLogy in her prepared statement. at worst, she's a coLd bastard.

win-win say i.

7. true enough but...

if Bradley pressed her like say this:

Ms. Rice, with all due respect, I think all of us feel sympathy for the victimes of 9/11 but what Mr. Clarke did was accept responsibility for their losses.

Does anyone else in the administration share that sense of responsibility or do you reject Mr. Clarke's acceptance of responsibility.

If she had to answer:

Well Ed, as you surely know there are lawsuits pending which make it impossible for me or anyone in the administration to publically make such a statement.

I'd have paid to here that exchange.....

9. Apology not reported.
I didn't see the Rice interview on 60 Minutes. I read a number of accounts this morning about it, and none of them mentioned an "apology." For anyone not watching 60 Minutes, it doesn't exist.

For those who were watching, many may have noted that it wasn't an apology.

10. well, that's my point....
she was asked about Clarke's apology, which was an 'apology' and she did not respond except to express 'sympathy'
