Richard Clarke's Book Review on Amazon is Being Freeped
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/flex-sign-in/ref=cm_rate_rev_pagepos2/102-3589850-5834542#rated-review

They certainly didn't take long for their storm troopers to get out the talking points:

Words of a Traitor, March 27, 2004
Reviewer: A reader from Chicago
This politicizing of an American tragedy is shameless. Not only is Clarke completely contradicting his earlier testimony in 2002 (was he lying then or now?), but his high-profile "book tour" before the 9/11 commission is getting in the way of us getting to real solutions about how to prevent further acts of terrorism.

Ummm...who's POLITICIZING THE TRAGEDY? Your fearless leader who has used the tragedy in paid political ads!

:grr:

1. Amazon should only allow people who've BOUGHT the book to comment.
Their review pages, which used to be a good idea, have turned into a useless stew of invective and false praise. Barnes and Noble reviews are generally a lot more serious-minded and even-handed (but they have some bad eggs, too).

3. Welcome to DU!
The astroturf writers are at it again. They get their talking points and hit all the major websites.

5. Except for the political books, the reviews aren't bad
I find them useful for buying DVD's, etc., and I sometimes review something I've bought/seen/read/heard somewhere else.

16. Political or not, anything that's controversial gets reviewed weirdly.
I guess that's inevitable.

When Amazon first was put up, I remember writing one of the first reviews for Dianetics. It didn't stay up too long. :-)

2. Goddamn friggin' brownshirts!
Telling the truth is now "politicizing an American tradedy" - that's what Bush has done for years now...

6. Of course they are.
It's terrible and all, but I wouldn't worry about it. I mean, it's into its 5th printing after one week? Over 1/2 million sold? Freeping Amazon's reviews is like trying to hold back a flood. How pathetic.

I'm half way through. A very readable book. No wonder it's flying off the shelves. And the extra-good news is that people who buy this book are actually going to READ it! Guaranteed.

11. Freepers = people who post at FreeRepublic.com
It's an extreme right-wing forum. They call themselves 'freepers.

15. free republic - natural habitat of the freeper
brownshirt wearing folks who like to play their own version of 6 degrees of kevin bacon by linking everything and blaming everything on Bill clintons penis. Give them a few more days and the clarke book will be bill clintons penis's fault. 9/11 -intern!, the economy downturn is caused by monicas purse sales hence the fault of clintons willy, iraq - must be clintons fault.

welcome to DU

12. This is what RNC talking heads do with their spare time
For a fun game, try picking a talking head who would have written each review.

Fun for the whole family.

Grand prize goes to the first DUer to find the Ann Coulter piece.

let amazon know what is happening

and that they do the same thing to polls (and those polls are often deleted by the news corps.)

they should be able to delete the more obvious ones.
