FRANKS to "set history straight"? (gossip)
From the oldest person in the world named "Cindy". She's ONLY a stupid gossip columnist.

GEN. Tommy Franks said goodbye to his job this week. But he may not be marching off to retirement quietly. Yes, he left graciously. Yes, he glad-handed Donald Rumsfeld, with whom he has had wide well-known differences. Yes, he said publicly and loudly and repeatedly how correct the war, the peace, the Iraq situation, the troop deployment, the Bush White House has been in Operation Slam Saddam. However . . . and what I'll do right now . . . is already, right now - even before I print my item - apologize for it. I know there'll be a complaint. I know I'll be screamed at. I know I'll be told I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm only a stupid gossip columnist. So, to save time, I hereby apologize in advance for my stupidity and the fact that I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm only a stupid gossip columnist . . .

But . . . Gen. Franks has kept a written journal. He has also uttered phrases like: "At some time the truth will come out." He has made no move to publish this commercially. So far it looks like it might be just for his family. But his aim - and so he has said privately - is that history must be set straight. At least that's the plan.

For now. And exactly precisely what that means I sure can't say because I don't know what I'm talking about because I'm only a stupid gossip columnist. So, I hereby already apologize for this item in advance.

4. She's Wingnut, Has Had the Job Since Olden Times
Edited on Wed Jul-09-03 11:40 AM by UTUSN
She's secure. She name-drops the PATAKIs as personal friends, but also before them, the CUOMOs, as oh-so-old-and-personal friends. One of her recent columns had her as the other third of a threesome with Mr & Mrs Mario back when Andrew was announcing for guv, and Cindy claimed to pick up vibes of trouble in the KENNEDY-CUOMO marriage. I'll look for the link and put it into Edit. But the point was that she claims to be on INTIMATE terms with anybody who's anybody. while retaining her essential wingnuttiness.

.... I was sitting in the center of the room. A small round table for four, and there were just two others. Matilda Cuomo, former first lady of the state of New York, and mother of the candidate, plus Mario Cuomo, former governor of the state of New York, and father of the candidate. I know them since before they moved into the executive mansion in Albany. These are special people. This night their eyes glistened. Mario had been governor and now his son was running for governor. They were coming full circle. It was heady. We laughed, we joked, we shared memories.

As Kerry raced on like the Superchief train citing all she and her family have done and will continue to do, I stole a look at Mario. We were sitting shoulder to shoulder. Eyes unwaveringly straight ahead, he would not meet my gaze. Minutes later, I did it again. He would not trade glances. You know how when, filled with pride as someone basks in your reflected sunlight, you squeeze a nearby hand . . . exchange a smile . . . in excitement? This was not.

When Andrew's turn came, he introduced a family video. As expected, it extolled his accomplishments. As not expected, a goodly portion focused on Kerry.

I said to someone later - and, for certain, this someone recalls that conversation - "If he doesn't get elected, I'll put money this lady's out of there." ....
