Can Bush win if Ken Lay is not in jail?
I don't think so. Let's not forget the "poster boy" of corporate fraud, and how closely tied to Bush he is, and how Kenny boy is still cruising around the carribean or somewhere on a yacht, while thousands of Enron employees got stiffed.

You all remember this, and bring it up at the right time (say, late October of 2004), ok?

2. The problem isn't just Ken Lay
but a number of Enron executives. No one could have committed that volume of fraudulent shell gaming without substantial help. It will not go well for Bush if they do not have some convictions of Enron execs. My understanding is that they have only one indictment at the moment.

Soft on crimes that destroy retirements.

3. But Bush said "Mr. Lay supported (his) opponent"
Yeah, I'll bet Ken Lay is dreading 2004. There's a thread over in LBN where they talk about poor Lay losing money on some real estate. Maybe that's how they are going to handle it. There will be a big GOP story about how much Lay has suffered. You know, "He's suffered more than he would have if he had gone to jail. He's paid his debt." That sort of crapola.

4. We gotta harp on the fact that Kenny boy is a criminal
Edited on Tue Aug-05-03 12:31 AM by Pobeka
who stiffed the average joe american, and the only reason he's not serving time is because of his connections to the white house.

Accountability does not mean cruising around in a yacht, or being free when you fraudulently bankrupt an entire company.

on edit - typo

5. Just once...
I wish some reporter would ask Bush if he still considers Ken Lay to be a good friend. I would love to watch Bush try to squirm out of that one.

on Larry King tonight ....

Poor Kay Bailey Hutchison didnt have much to say ..... She was completely stone-faced and unresponsive when confronted by a knowledgable citizen ....

Then again: .. she didnt have much to say when Fritz Hollings zinged her with a great one either :

"I got 3,500 over 10 years, but our friend, Kay Bailey Hutchison, she got 99,000. Heck, I'm the chairman of the committee. That wasn't a contribution. That was an insult"- Sen. Ernest Hollings when asked about his contributions from Enron .....

Sen Hollings will forever hold a special place in my heart with that quote .....

13. This is a Bullshit argument .....
Its a complete and utter LIE ....

GREATER than 70 % of Enron political contributions went to the GOP .... the piddly amounts sent to democrats were nothing more than insurance, and cheap insurance at that ....

Twas the GOP who aided Enron by rewriting the laws of the land that removed the 'Cop from the Beat' ... allowing the Friends of the GOP to freely rape the nation, unmolested by 'regulations' .....

As is their want .....

10. Saving Kenny Boy, Saddam, and OBL for election season?
Remember these guys don't announce/accomplish things (a.k.a. "rolling out a new product") without a motivation.

Jessica Lynch rescue...right when we were "bogged down" and questioning the numbers of troops Rumsfeld overruled Pentagon into sending into Iraq

Homeland Security Dept Announced...as FBI agent testifies that her pre-9/11 warnings ignored

Hussein Bros. fight to the death...just has Niger uranium yellowcake lie is making Bush & Co. look bad

I'm sure there are others...

11. Yeah, but putting Kenny in jail sets a bad precedent
For the other corporate thieves, don't you think.

On the other hand, there is no honor among thieves...

12. Kenny is being given plenty of time to get his affairs in order
They are saving the best for last, IMHO.

They cannot let him walk. DOJ is just building a case...

This is too tempting a target for the Democrats to pass up. Rove won't give them the satisfaction of rubbing a free Ken Lay in Bush & Co.'s face come election time.
