This is my Hope Rant
These last three days have given me some hope for the future.

The 9/11 Commission hearings (which are not over yet), the Richard Clarke revelation, the beginning tidal change in the media.

"This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
-- Winston Churchill, November 10, 1942

So I have changed my sig line, to something more positive, more forward looking and hopeful.

I know there are many painful days ahead. There will be more tragic news from Iraq.

I am grateful for DU and the work done here. I am grateful for the welcome extended me here. I am grateful for the answers to my posts (even those that disagree).

One more from Churchill, we all know which name to substitute:

"We have but one aim and one single irrevocable purpose. We are resolved to destroy Hitler and every vestige of the Nazi regime. From this nothing will turn us. Nothing. We will never parley; we will never negotiate with Hitler or any of his gang. We shall fight him by land; we shall fight him by sea; we shall fight him in the air, until, with God's help, we have rid the earth of his shadow and liberated its people from his yoke."

2. it's important
to be cautiously optimistic. It's hard to say whether or not the 9/11 commission's report will be an indictment of the Bush administration (there was, clearly, some partisan grandstanding during the hearings).
I agree, however, that Clarke's revelation has freed the press. it's like the Fisher king. The land was in a state of decay, the press was in this state, not quite dead, but always dying. Clarke, it seems, restored health to the kingdom.
