9/11 Commission is a Joke and Dangerous to Democrats!!
The final report will be a Mexican standoff--go to the bank on it. Repukes will slant blame to Clinton; Dems will slant blame to Bush. There will be no bombshells.

Note: Like a zillion other Americans today, I was not able to watch Clarke’s testimony and, thus, have to rely on the “news”. From that news I glean that Clarke wasn’t much and the repukes just slammed dunked him-------I KNOW, I KNOW, I’m not stupid; I know this media. But if you were pinning your dreams on Clarke's testimony and the hope that it will rock this nation tonight, I hate to tell you that it has been nicely swept under the carpet just like everything else over the last three years....hell, and I don't even know what he said. But that's the point--neither do 97% of this nation tonight. But there are two things about this whole farce that is not a positive for the Democrats.

First, this commission has insulated Bush from responsibility for 9/11. It has protected him from the charge that it was “on his watch”. It detracted people from examining how these bastards blew off everything given to them from the Clinton administration (remember that was their big brag) and were centered on resurrecting the damn cold war with Russia and China for who knows what truly evil purposes (selling us StarWars, perhaps??). Instead this commission took the poop and smeared it all over Clinton, too. Thus, not one vote in this nation will be changed. In fact, 8 years of Clinton failure makes 8 months of the poor Warrior King look good (and you can bet that that is exactly what the repukes will pump in this election). And then there is a timing factor.

We are going to build a campaign on economy, jobs, healthcare, etc.---apparently. First part of July as we get ready to take it to convention and put it on the road, this damn nothing report is going to hit. The airwaves will immediately pull off of any Dem message and go to what Bush has wet dreams about; ie. war, terror, 9/11. And, as I pointed to above, it will do a good job of crapping on that Dem that America loves to hate: Clinton.

This commission , thus, ends up being 75% good news for repukes and 25% good news for Dems. We lose this one. And the big losers are the families of 9/11---I cry for them. You deserve better but you won’t get it. The local police investigating a drunk driver who ran down your loved one will give you honorable service....these people won’t.

3. Wake up to reality, guys
I was salivating to turn on my TV and hear Bush blown out of the water. For Christ's sake they aren't playing whatever the hell the dude said and I like the other 97% of Americans will hear just that tonight....they are featuring the cool putdowns by the repukes on the panel and the outrage of Bush. And for the love of God do you really--are you idiots--think this panel will come down with a big shot between the eyes to Bush in the end. Look at those fuckers. They won't allow it. This report is going to be Mexican standoff and in July you will be going apeshit that it didn't say that Bush was a criminal and suggest that he be put before a firing squad. Wake up to what's going on. I don't know why Bush is so scared of these people because this just let the bastard off the hook.

5. I have no unreasonable expectations from this committee...
...they keep going on and on and on about how it's NOT about "fixing blame" etc etc. We all know (I think) that it will be what most of us consider a watered down "finding" with (if we're lucky) a dissenting opinion by Ben-Veniste and Gorelick. The 9-11 families are reportedly already upset that it turnied into a "book report" on Dick Clarke's book and that precious few of their questions got asked, let alone answered.

The 45% who support Bush today after all he's put this country through will never change their minds, even if all you saw on the news were the Clarke bombs and the calls for Rice to testify.

The 45% who are against him will be fortified by today's events and most know that the RW news cannot spin Clarke and his #1 selling book out of existence.

It's the other 10%. They're the important ones, and are still reachable.

But today was very good, on the balance. And I'm going to revel in it for a while.

11. Granted... 97% are NOT paying attention, BUT
Everything said in the commission heaings is ON THE RECORD..and for the most part, under oath.

Up until now, we have had little but soundbytes on tv.. At keast this is preserved..

People were not that fired up about McCarthy's tactics, UNTIL he hit "maximum velocity".. Bush may just about be there..

Time will tell, but at least information is getting out..

20. Don't get Fox news---have never watched it
now do you want to deal with reality or pump up some great hope of overturning Bush tonight. I've watched that hope for 3 years. Never happened. Won't now. And the great benefit of this commission is that it spread the shit around to Clinton so that we don't lay it all on the Bush boy. As a TOTAL new junkie I still don't know what the hell Clarke said. Only snipets counteracted by repuke bombs. But I know, 97% of Americans were all watching all day long to the hearings. Bottom line: we will never get any 'bombs' through--the media will see to that. Only if Kerry chooses to pick these things up and make a point of them will they start hittting the people. From reports from his camp, he doesn't want to get into it.

24. If you are still up, turn on C-SPAN
right now. They are replaying Mr. Clarke's testimony. The reason I mentioned FOX news is that the original post on this thread seemed to have all the FOX news talking points down pat.
So sorry, I have to have a little hope to pump me up. I didn't mention one thing in my post about overturning Bush tonight. I don't know where you got that from. And if you're such as news junkie, I can't believe that you have never watched FOX. Much as I dislike their slant, I still want to see what the other side has to say. Part of my perhaps misguided attempt to keep my friends close and my enemies closer.
I think Kerry is playing it smart by not coming out about this right now. It keeps the screams of partisanship down to a dull roar. Better he should let it lay for a bit, see how this shakes out. And I think it will shake for a while, because this administration is hauling out all the big guns and the smear machine is working overtime. We'll see.

4. Bush WILL get away with it....
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 06:44 PM by Nightjock
I agree with you to a point. I think some votes will change to the Democratic side. But not as many as I thought while watching Clark's testimony.
As I watched him expose Bush and Co. for the liars they are, I felt relief that the nation was finally learning what many of us knew already. I even let my mind compare it to Watergate because of the constant lies of the White House.
But than watching every news channel I could, the media quickly covers a few soundbites, gives Condi's bullspit, and asks if "that closes the door on this chapter"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most of the people who watch the news tonight will not see the gross negligence of this White House and Bush escapes once again.
Someone please tell me I'm wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

beat me to posting this. Was just about to write the same thing. What a slap in the face to the victims of 9/11 to have such partisan attacks as the one by James Thompson today. He is a disgrace to justice.

10. I thought Clark kicked his
a-hole. Every partisan attack Clark knocked down and made the questioner look foolish by presenting FACTS.
But the media won't show that.

His testimony was damaging and he made a couple of them look foolish.

14. Expect the BIG LIE
For that, more than likely, is what is going to come out of this. Everyone from the Bush administration are going to lie. That is their policy. The flood of lies on all fronts are coming so fast that you cannot stay in front of them.

Couple that with the secrecy to which these SOBs are dedicated and you cannot get at them to disclose their lies. We have some heavy lifting on this one.

With the economy, they cannot lie quite so handily, you know if you are out of work, you know if you had to take a lesser paying job, you know if your brother-in-law is out of work or had to take a minimum wage job. Those are things that Bush and his henchmen have a hard time lying about.

We are faced with a bunch of crooked, lying SOBs that will do anything to maintain power.

They'll make a couple of "duh!" superfical recommendations--better cooperation among agencies, etc.--and rubberstamp the military "solution" to the terrorism.

18. I have watched coverage for the 2 days. I disagree with your assessment.
Democrats scored NUMEROUS points while the Republicans could only smear Clarkes book. Sounded like a lot of sour grapes, and panic to me.
Of course I am ever the optimist.

19. flaming-ahhh, you watched for 2 days......America didn't
I'm a TOTAL TOTAL political junkie but couldn't watch. If I had to go by 'da news" I wouldn't have been very impressed. And for a lot of Americans they would have been wanting to know where things stood with the Sweet 16. I'm glad it made your day. It fell into the sewer for the rest of the country. This has to be as big as someone sucking someone's 'member' in an Oval Office to get the public's attention. All attentive Dems cheered--I guess 'cause this attentive Dem couldn't see it like so many others. All attentive Repukes cheered 'cause they 'put him down'--I guess because that's the play of the news media tonight. And not one vote changed in the US of A. And that's why I want to emphasize that if we want a vote or two to change, this is going to have to be picked up by Kerry, talked about by him and put into ads. Word from his camp is that he doesn't want to get into this 9/11 and Iraq stuff. Great--go make a speech on healthcare while the nation is on this subject and see how much coverage it gets. This makes me wild. Damn it.

26. Time to 'pony up' cowpoke ...
You keep saying '97 % of america' didnt see any of this, or enough of this to come to the same conclusion we have ...

So: .. PRODUCE your evidence that 97% of america didnt get what Clarke said ...

I expect GOOD evidence: .. scientific facts; not references to your auntie or uncle too busy at Bingo to watch ...

Show us proof of these numbers ...

There doesnt appear to be much WE can show you: since you are a news junkie who was watched and watched and watched and watched watched watched and watched some more: and STILL dont get it ...

I tell ya: ... we should be able to KICK people outta the party ...

NOT you though: .. yer too damned SMART ! .....

22. Mexican standoff? . . . maybe . . . but then again . . .
there's a very real possibility that events may move the thing beyond their control . . .

I've said it before, and I'll say it again . . . if there's one thing I know (and there ain't many), it's that people care passionately about what happened on 9/11, and they want the truth . . . yeah, there are those who believe that the administration's story IS the truth, but as events unfold, more and more are coming to realize that there's more to the story than BushCo would have us believe . . .

this issue is so explosive that one good revelation (a la Alexander Butterworth's disclosure of the White House taping system during the Watergate hearings) could blow the whole thing wide open . . . and the holes in the BushCo story are so huge, and the contradictions so numerous, that I'd be shocked if it DOESN'T explode at some point . . .

no, they ain't lookin' for the truth . . . but there's a high probabablity, imo, that said truth could very easily rise up and bite them in the ass anyhow . . . and wouldn't that be lovely to watch? . . .

so we just have to get this info out there. Talk to people, tell everyone you know. get the indy media to use his testimony. get a tape and show it to people. Grass roots can get this message out there in time for the election. Bush fucked up royally. Make people realize that

That means 3% of us are unemployed or work nights. Now you know thats not true.

it is getting the players into the open. Would we be hearing about Clarke this much if there were no hearings??? Lets let the bloodsuckers out and see if they can stand the light of day. Of course it isn't perfect, but it is something. I think they need to talk more about how Bush didn't wan't this commission at all and fought to not give it an extension.
