Email Response from Rep. Pete King
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 06:25 PM by Kimber Scott
I just received this email from Representative Pete King in response to the one I wrote below it. I'm flabbergasted! Where did this guy come from? He's such a professional, isn't he? (If you think I need to post the headers to verify the origin of this email, I will, PM them to anyone who needs them.) Here goes:

"Many thanks for your e-mail. It reaffirms my belief that I am right.

Pete King"

Here is the one I wrote to Mr. King in response to a post here on DU that prompted the above response from him. I don't know Mr. Halikias' screen name, so if you're out there, speak up.

Dear Mr. King,

After reading your response to Henry Halikias' letter requesting you vote to censure President Bush for lying to the American people in the run-up to his war in Iraq, I thought I should remind you, that while you have every right to profess your allegiance to Mr. Bush, it's not a good idea to berate your constituents. Mr. Bush is not going to vote for you. Your allegiance should lie with those who have elected you. I would also like to forewarn you - when you have found yourself out of a job, don't expect Mr. Bush to create one for you. He's not very good at it.

Sincerely,

Kimber Scott
AZ

P.S. When I write to my elected officials with a position they don't agree with, they are usually kind enough to respectfully state their position without questioning my morality, or my IQ, and they even make some sort of effort to either get, or retain, my vote.

2. My response to his response
Mr. King,

I don't believe you need any affirmation. You obviously know you're right and why should a little thing like an American citizen cause you to doubt yourself? Thanks for your professional response. It certainly reaffirms my opinion of you.

3. Wow, a republican with the cloaking device turned off.
The party of greed attracts this type of person. Autocratic, narrow-minded, and stupid. Still - surprising unprofessionalism.

9. Well, that's the problem...
This guy isn't from Arizona. I just wrote to him after somebody here on DU, who is in his district, wrote to him asking him to censure Bush on his Iraq lies. King wrote back and told the guy he was (paraphrasing) "morally, intellectually and something-elsally wrong" to request that. Anyway, the DUer asked us to write, I did and this is what the guy said. I was taken aback because I really didn't expect a response. I mean I don't even live in his state! (NY - 3rd Congressional District)

I shouldn't have replied to his reply. The whole thing is pretty immature. But, who would have ever thought I could goad a Congressman into a pissing match?

Here's his picture:

Dear Mr. Bleachers7,

I understand that you recently contacted my office requesting that I vote to censure President Bush.

I disagree with you in every respect. You are morally, intellectually and politically wrong. President Bush is an outstanding leader of outstanding integrity. Like Ed Koch I thank God every night that he is our President. You should do the same.

Very truly yours, Pete T King

8. I just received the same email from him.
I had written to him as well in response to what he had said to a DU member. This has got to be the most unprofessional response I have ever received from a political official. At first I thought it was a joke.

11. Bush Doesn't Vote For Him & Neither Do You...His Point
No offense and I commend you sending that well-stated letter to this party hack, but might I play a little Devil's Adocate here.

First, the mention of DU would be like you getting an email saying someone got your name from a post on Free Republic...not a good start to from.

Next, since you're not in his district, how do you know what he says/believes isn't in accord with the majority in his district? Remember, he's in hoidy-toidy land...Long Island...not with the real people. His people are like bunnypants and an attack on him in any form...overt or masked, is highly offensive. Similar to GOOPers endlessly playing the Clinton card. In these goobers minds, all charges against * is considered personal, even if matters of principal or legal right or wrong. Face it, how many Democrats would have voted to censure Clinton in '98? And how would you feel about those who did (like those who voted in favor of his impeachment)

Lastly, this hack uses you for fodder...the more negative responses from outside his district the more he feels he's standing up for "his own". I see this with my own scummy Repugnican Congressdrunk. He always plays the "Anti-Washington, Anti-Liberal" card every election and uses complaints from "outsiders"...like poor ratings from the various groups, as a badge of honor.

This moron is a small-timer who thinks he's a player. He's rarely used by this regime on the chatter circuit (the way you can really rank how these doofuses think they rate) and thus getting negative responses from "lefties" and "pinkos" like you and me shows how good a job he's doing to his party handlers.

I'd focus on your local congresspeople...a new-day Mo Udall from Arizona would be a wonderful addition to a Democratic House.

Cheers

I never told King I was writing from DU! (You can see the text of my email in the first post.) I was writing on behalf of one of his constituents who requested help from us here at DU, but he didn't know that. At least, not from me. I did tell King I was from Arizona only to be honest and not have him believe I was one of his constituents. I totally expected to be ignored.

I do write my representatives and senators here all the time. The only one who ever writes back is John McCain. Eight times out of ten he doesn't agree with what I say, but he always sends a nice, professional, even if canned, response. I totally respect John McCain for that, even if he is a Republican.

I really don't care about this King guy. I didn't even know he existed before this. I was just doing a fellow DUer a favor.

Don't take this two-bit Bush towel boy to heart. He can only get his fat head on TV by shining Bush's ass and not by being a statesman for America. He's a loser with no influence and no grace.

23. I wrote Newsday about my e-mail from King
I said: "I am writing in regards to a letter a Mr. Harry Hilikias received from Rep. Pete Kingwhich was a response to Mr. Hilikias calling on King to vote that President Bush be censured. Mr. King said that Hilikias was "morally wrong". I was offended. I emailed king saying "I am greatly troubled by your response to one of your constituents. Your behavior has been unprofessional and insulting. I will personally contribute to your opponent's campaign when you run next." my response (which was the same as many others received when they wrote him) was "Many thanks for your e-mail. It reaffirms my belief that I am right."

I am outraged at this behaviour. And I am glad I don't live in his constituency.

Please expose this behaviour for what it is - rude, sarcastic, unprofessional and unbecoming an elected official.

Thank you,"
