It ALL depends on how it is reported but Clarke did well today
He really had the full force of the White House coming at him. There is no way he could have had sufficient time to prepare a response to the "background" that the WH released to Fox (some others too they say).

His apology at the beginning was apparently very moving.

He layed it out when he said that the war in Iraq hurt the efforts of the war on terror.

For all those who were hating Kerrey he really shut down the "background" memo thing and restored Clarke's credibility on which Thompson started the attack and Lehman brought up his credibility on.

I will also say this, Clarke pretty much admitted that he didn't tell the whole truth in the "background" without actually saying it and hurting his trustworthyness. Very smoothly done.

HE was interrupted by applause what 4 times?

Again it all depends on how it is reported by there were several headlines in that 2 hours and 20 minutes of testimony.

Way to go Clarke!

2. The initial reporing by MSNBC is not a good omen
I am afraid the only people who will know what Clarke said are those who were watching.

22. Look at the headline CNN webpage
"panel member challenges Clarkes credibility" Of all that was said this is what Headlines their news page. This is what is fucked in this country. The media.

3. Again, I play the role of "bucket of cold water"....
I know everyone is getting excited on here about this but the fact is that most people aren't watching it and won't see it other than how it is reported. And inevitably it will be reported in whatever way is most favorable to the admin and least favorable to Clarke.

I hope I'm wrong and all the people on here shouting "drip drip drip" are right but I've fallen for this one too many times to believe any more.

4. That is what I was getting at
We know how Fox will report it but people who sit down to get the days events on CBS,ABC,NBC will have their opinion shaped by what they chose to report. I expect to see the quesitoning of his credibility though.

11. Oh, I have....
I'm usually more reserved about it but there have been numerous times where I thought the drip drip drip was going to result in a dam breaking. But it never does. Hence, I become the wet blanket, the bucket of cold water.

All of this is making me thirsty.

6. They never laid a glove on him. He came across as sincere and
thoughtful. The Repugnants on the other hand were overly
partisan, mean spirited, and more importantly off the point.

13. MSNBC front page "Your government failed you" Clarke pic
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/

They did include Lehman's shot at his credibility and didn't mention where the August "background" press release came from.

cause he killed the White House and he killed their trolls who tried to discredit him.

It was a blow-out.

17. Clarke was impressive. Brilliant, sincere, honest.
His apology was historic. His command of the facts (over decades) was extraordinary.

19. Tonight's news, tomorrow's headlines will tell us who is
completely on the dark side - if there are any still in doubt.

The Rethugs are so blatantly politicizing this. I can't wait to see how NBC Nightly News handles this. They've got the GE pressure.

I think a lot of real reporters will be genuinely impressed by Clarke's knowledge and demeanor today. How many of them will bow down to their masters?

16. It's heartwarming to actually get an apology from a govt. official
The Bush team has refused to look in the mirror, it's just great to see someone of Clarke's stature finally admit that failures occurred.
