Clarke providing cover for intelligence agencies.
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 02:26 PM by Nlighten1
He just said that the agencies should be given a break because the "Airplane as missiles" reports were 6 years old.

BS

There was a report that came out from the Library of Congress in late 1999-2000 that parlayed this information.

Bush 43 was forced to stay on an aircraft carrier when he was visiting Genoa because of fears of terrorists using airplanes as missiles.

1. Um, wasn't that his point?
And he didn't say that the intelligence agencies had a pass because of the age of the information - he mentioned that there were thousands of other threats (accurate), and that the "airplanes as missles" idea was lost in the morass.

If you're expecting Clarke to come out and demonize the intelligence agencies, your expectations will not be fulfilled.

2. He is simply being honest, he is not there for politics, etc...
and I found his response very reasonable.

3. he does not want the intelligence people to be scapegoats
intelligence analysis looks for patterns

his point is that the specific pattern of aircraft as missiles was a small part of the available milieu of intelligence, which is probably true.

Of course, any rational person should have expected airplanes as missiles.

The real problem though is that nono of the Bushies gave a shit about any of it.
