Poll question: Would you avoid my threads based on my name?
Edited on Wed Mar-24-04 10:59 AM by ChavezSpeakstheTruth
Just wondering if the name of the thread poster has any bearing on replies?

I just use myself as an example.

This may start a whole pro/anti-Chavez debate (that's always healthy) but I am more interested in if my name turns people off who might agree with me on other issues. Not that I am going to change it.

Cheers

1. i watch for threads (and individuals) that i have opinions on...
agree or disagree.

i avoid the threads on topics that i find boring.

i assume this is the same with most here.

BTW...i remember the day you were "introduced" here (i forget by whom). From your name, i thought "here is someone who will likely have some strong opinions and with whom i will likely agree." So far, I have been proven correct.

4. I'm not interested in the slightest in Chavez
I'm much more concerned about Bush and the upcoming election than Chavez. I have seen nothing to indicate to me why this guy deserves either hero worship or total denigration. The Bush administration doesn't like him. BFD. I really don't like knee-jerk responses. I hate Bush as much or more than the next guy but just because he opposed Chavez doesn't make Chavez a saint.

From what I can see, Chavez is a socialist, is against the war in Iraq and is against the WTO. OK, this tends to put him in a favorable light. However there are questions about his legitimacy, questions about his policies regarding dissidents and none of these have been adequately addressed.

Someone provide me with a bulleted, sourced list of why I should be in favor of this guy and why I should care on anything more than a vaguely suface level about him at this juncture in American history and politics?

Someone else provide me with a bulleted, sourced list of why I should be against him and why I should care on anything more than a vaguely suface level about him at this juncture in American history and politics?

9. Be careful when asking for anti-chavez lists
make sure what you see is sourced by a reputable media outlet. The majority of the media in Venezuela is very anti-Chavez due to being owned by the elitist opposition.

10. That's why I asked for sourced info
To date I have never seen anyone post a comprehensive listing of Chavez positions, frankly it seems that the pro-chavez folks like him because Bush doesn't. OK so he speaks out about the Oil thing. Big deal. Ditto about the WTO thing (again Big Deal). He dislikes Bush. Big Deal. He's a world leader. Well that lends some weight to it. I'm still waiting for even one person to explain to me why I should care about this. Sure the oil and WTO things impact human rights, but what is Chavez's record in this area? What has he actually done to improve his country and the lives of his people? How do the people themselves feel about him?

5. I assumed
I assumed that your main issue was being pro-Chavez and since I think President Chavez is a thug I didn't ignore your posts, but I assumed that I knew where you were coming from. My mistake and my apologies.

6. No prob
It's my hope that my name wouldn't alienate people whom I might agree with on other topics or hinder the possibility for good debate. I am always open minded.
