Me, either. Jane Gorelick just pointed this out during her grilling of George Tenet (9/11 hearings) on C-SPAN3.

Why didn't I know this little tidbit of REALLY IMPORTANT NEWS?

My impression had been exactly the opposite.
That they were almost all here (in the US) before BushCorp took over.

7. That was the impression you were supposed to get.
I had read the fact that they mostly arrived after Bush took over, but it's been de-emphasized by the media.

4. Bush* toadies have been saying that Clinton let them in the country.
They've claimed numerous times that the hijackers were in the country and planning for almost 2 years.

Yeah, I think this is pretty big news.

If we (those of us interested in the minutia) didn't know this, Clinton gets the blame because of media neglect... once again!

13. Actually, they were in and out of the country for years.
This is a big issue: why were they allowed to enter and re-enter the United States multiple times without apparent fear of capture? Many of them had incomplete or invalid visas. Many of them were under investigation in Germany, and were on so-called "watch" lists.

20. And 15 of them first entered the US through Jeddah. Why? Because
the CIA was using the visa bureau of Jeddah to send al Qaeda members into the US for training.

Who makes such an outrageous claim?

The former visa bureau chief of Jeddah, 20-year State Department veteran Michael Springman. He says he was repeatedly ordered to issue visas to unqualified applicants for reason of "national security."

Was September 11th a tragic miscalculation? Springman says the victims "may have been sacrificed in order to further wider US geopolitical objectives.... It's only a few thousand dead, and what's that against the greater gain for the United States in the Middle East?"

Surprised to hear that Springman was fired after repeatedly complaining about the CIA's interference in the visa program?

and who informed you of such on what basis?

chemical agent, or yellow wired bombs?

Gate 26, or Gate 32?

There are so many blinds and hang-outs around this that you cannot really hold firmly onto any assumptions.

think about it.

27. info on woman -- katherine smith
February 10, 2002: Katherine Smith is killed one day before he scheduled appearance in court on charges she helped five Muslim terrorists get illegal drivers licenses. Her car supposedly hit a tree and then caught on fire. The FBI later determined that gasoline was poured on her clothing before she died in the fire. A suicide note was found, but prosecutors say they are looking for murder suspects. One of the five Muslims, Sakhera Hammad, was found with a pass for the WTC, dated September 5, 2001, in his wallet. Hammad claims he was a plumber and worked on the WTC's sprinkler system that day (see September 5, 2001). Smith was being investigated by the FBI; the five later plead guilty to charges of fraud. (AP, 2/13/02, Reuters, 2/15/02, Go Memphis, 2/12/02, Memphis Commercial Appeal, 2/21/02)

34. a little more info on Smith
I find this incident very troubling. Also, there's an odd, tangential connection with a suspicious death of microbiologist Don Wiley, and similarity to the murder of Air Force psychiatrist, Col. Philip Shue. (Remember them?)

A day before she was to testify, her car supposedly hits a tree and catches fire, but it's found that gasoline was poured on her clothing before her car hit the tree, and that the car had been traveling too slowly to cause much damage.

The gas tank was unruptured, yet the fire was so intense it cooked the passenger compartment down to the frame, burned off her limbs and left her charred beyond recognition. Witnesses saw flames erupt from the back seat and engulf the interior before the impact. (See AP story, "Is mysterious state death tied to terrorism?"
http://www.oakridger.com/stories/021802/stt_0218020021.html )

Then, on June 1, 2002, OC Smith, the Memphis medical examiner who identified Katherine Smith's body and also probed the mysterious death of Harvard University microbiologist Don Wiley (who supposedly fell from a Memphis bridge in December 2001), is attacked with chemical spray, bound with barbed wire, and left lying in a nearby parking lot with a bomb tied to his body. He is rescued several hours later. This followed the bombing of his office on March 13.

As for Shue, he died last April 16, when his car left the road and crashed into a cluster of trees. Officials initially reported he died of his injuries sustained in the incident, ruled a suicide. However, he'd been restrained with duct tape, tortured (nipples, a finger and an earlobe sliced off), and had recently received death threats. The military is accused of a cover up.

However bad we think things are, I suspect they're a whole lot worse.

Atta was at Orlando International Airport to pick up a hijacker wannabee in the late summer of 01. The man who sold Atta and a few of the other eventual hijackers sold them the tickets near the end of August.

and several listed Pensacola Naval Station as their residence.

A Newsweek story archived here:

http://www.apfn.net/messageboard/9-16-01/discussion.cgi.14.html

"U.S. military sources have given the FBI information that suggests five of the alleged hijackers of the planes that were used in Tuesday’s terror attacks received training at secure U.S. military installations in the 1990s."

And there's a lot more.

Mohammed Atta attended the International Officers School at Maxwell Air Force in Alabama; Saeed Alghamdi studied at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey.

Lt. Col. Steve Butler was vice chancellor for student affairs while Alghamdi was a student. In a letter published May 26, 2002, Butler charged "Bush knew of the impending attacks on America. He did nothing to warn the American people because he needed this war on terrorism. What is...contemptible is the President of the United States not telling the American people what he knows for political gain." Butler was removed from his position and threatened with court martial.

According to its web site, the Defense Language Institute provides foreign language services to "Department of Defense, government agencies and foreign governments" to support "national security interests and global operational needs."

So, why was Alghamdi there?
