Should we close our borders to new immigrants?
If there aren't enough jobs here for our current citizens and residents, why should we allow new immigrants to flood an already tight job market?

3. Just the opposite...
...tear down the boundaries. It's one world and time we start treating it that way.

6. Problem
Maybe it is not a problem for other people, but I am having difficulty finding a job because I am not bilingual.
In fact, a few years ago I had applied for a job with the State of Virginia was the only applicant before the deadline. I was told after the deadline that they would prefer to have someone who spoke Spanish, so they extended the deadline until they got what they wanted.
Now, I have an insurance license and many of the positions want people fluent in Spanish.

Sheesh

2. It's not that simple
but a scapegoat is always nice I suppose.

If every nation did as you suggested, everyone would be stuck within one nation. I don't know about you, but I want variety in life. I don't intend to live out my entire life in one nation in one society in one place.

4. no--let's send the first immigrants back
to make room for the new.

(I'm completely joking about that)

Really, I'd rather immigrants come to this country and get jobs here than that the jobs leave to go to their countries. Immigrant job holders in my local community spend more money locally than they would if they had the same job elsewhere. Locally spent money keeps local businesses going. And that means local taxes get paid. And that means that my tax-dependent teaching job continues.

Immigrants also send a lot of their money back home, and can forge closer ties between their home communities and their adopted communities. So, here's to immigrants. I'm glad they are here.

7. Yes, there should be a # of years moratorium on all immigration
unless it is for refugee status. There's plenty of wealth in first world systems for people to make their money where they are.

I DID hear a report yesterday that the worlds population is slowing down...so that's good.

I am ABSOLUTELY OPPOSED to ONE WORLD anything. Friends? Yes. Fair Trade? Yes. Multicultural Overpopulation? NO. This isn't the 1492 anymore. Enough already! Many countries in Europe are asking the same questions regarding TOO many people flooding into one spot.

I'm also against multilingualism. ENGLISH in the WORKPLACE PLEASE!
My mother and her family came to this country in 1917. They had one hell of a time getting in, too. They spoke their language at home but INSISTED my mother and siblings learn and speak English in public. "When in Rome...."

If not a complete stop to immigration, then the criteria for it should be much, much stricter-------as it is in other countries. I just looked up immigration out of here to someplace else....I DISQUALIFY for a whole host of reasons.
.........Respectfully

11. I think that is an ignorant reply.............
I was married to a black man. I have a mexican grandson. My other two children are native american.

Actually, come to think of it, why DON'T we ask the Native Americans how they feel about MORE people streaming into their land?

AND POINT OF FACT: I didn't say send anyone anywhere, I SAID stop the immigration INTO the country for a while.

9. Are you a tomato picker?
because I don't think there are a lot of Guatamalen's who are deft at C++.

Funny, when the US was losing manufacturing jobs it was "globalization". Now that it is software engineers (who steadfastly refuse unionization) its A REALLY BIG DEAL.

12. Does ANYONE ....ANYYYYYYYYYYONE remember
John Steinbecks novel: Grapes of Wrath??????????????????????????????
We've forgotten the whole dust bowl thing already?

MY FAMILY, caucasian WORKED IN THE DAMN FIELDS. WE picked fruit, WE dug potatoes. WE worked the canneries. WE cleaned the houses of the RICH. Our Black brothers and sisters worked the fields too--remember something called COTTON??? I'm grateful and proud of the mostly latino workers who virtually slave in those fields. I marched for their cause because of Caesar Chavez. This has NOTHING to do with race, why does everyone keep bringing that up? I don't want Russians (now we have the freepin Russian mob here reaking havoc), Arabs, French, Germans, white green purple.......nobody to come into this country to permanently live for a period of time. THAT'S ALL.

13. Lets make it retroactive
to anyone whose family wasn't here before, oh say...700 A.D.

I wasn't making a racila reference, I was referring to the fact that the majority of immigrants do jobs Americans don't want. If you want to dig a ditch or go back to picking cotten you could probably get those jobs.

Unions protect employees jobs...corporations don't, immigration laws don't.
