The Clinton/Gore team on Terrorism.
I know I am preaching to the choir but how can idiots out there say that Clinton/Gore did nothing about terrorism?

President wants Senate to hurry with new anti-terrorism laws.

Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Mississippi, doubted that the Senate would rush to action before they recess this weekend. The Senate needs to study all the options, he said, and trying to get it done in the next three days would be tough.

One key GOP senator was more critical, calling a proposed study of chemical markers in explosives "a phony issue."

Clinton said he wanted increased wiretap authority "for terrorists who are moving from place to place," adding: "Where they are flexible, so must we be."

Clinton to terrorists: U.S. won't be intimidated
President calls for new legislation.

President Clinton sent a resounding message to terrorists Sunday: America will not be intimidated by "cowardly" acts of violence.

"As Americans, we can and must join together to defeat terrorism wherever it strikes and whoever practices it," Clinton said in a speech to disabled veterans in New Orleans.

"We may never see an end to terrorism, but we are sure going to do our level best to combat it and reduce to the absolute minimum level humanly possible the risk to American citizens traveling on airlines."
-- Vice President Al Gore, September 1996

--------------------

Clinton said that his administration is committed to battling terrorism "on every front". "The vice president's plan goes to the heart of this strategy, so I want everyone to understand that whenever this plan says the commission recommends, you can understand it to meant that the president will."
--President Bill Clinton, September 1996

---------------------

Terrorism is not fading away," Clinton observed in his address to U.N. delegates. He said the fight against terrorism should remain a top priority on the world's agenda.

Citing the August 7 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, the recent terrorist bombing in Northern Ireland, and continued violence in the Middle East, Clinton said that terrorism was not merely an American problem but one that affected the whole international community.

"Terrorism should be at the top of the world's agenda," Clinton said and outlined what he said the international community should do to fight terrorism.

1. Janet Reno's TOP priority in April 2000 was counterterrorism, while...
... a year later John Ashcroft's May 2001 list of seven "Strategic Goals and Objectives" did not even mention terrorism.

See the documents posted online yesterday at http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=39039 to provide objective evidence on Richard Clarke's accusations against the Bush White House.

See http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x1273378 for a DU discussion of the entire list of Clarke evidence document links at CFAP (Center for American Progress).
