Bush picks suburban exec as envoy to Ireland

July 9, 2003

BY LYNN SWEET Sun-Times Washington Bureau Chief

WASHINGTON--As long expected, President Bush announced Tuesday that he intends to nominate GOP fund-raiser James Casey Kenny, an executive of a prominent suburban Chicago construction company, as the next ambassador to Ireland.

Kenny, 50, is a Glenview resident with Irish roots in County Mayo. He is the vice president of Wheeling-based Kenny Construction Co. and president of Kenny Management Services.

In Illinois politics, Kenny is an insider's insider.

He is little known to the general public but well-connected within the Bush White House, the Illinois GOP establishment and Mayor Daley's Democratic City Hall.

greataunt's comment: Kenny is wired, and I am not surprised by the choice. Sometimes it is hard to tell the Democrats apart from the repukes in Illinois.
